Took my 1125R out of a spin today, I don't winterize it, just run it once a month or so during the winter. Anyway, when I pulled it out there was an oil puddle about the size of a quarter under the end of the kickstand and an oil trail that starts from under the little puck in the middle of the ignition/stator cover. It had been sitting for about 5-6 weeks.

As far as I know my stator is working ok, is the original, and I have the upgraded harness. I've read many of the stator threads but I cannot remember any of them mentioning leaks from the middle of the cover.

I scanned through the manual and it looks like the stator puck comes off, but I'm not sure how, and there is a nut or something under there. I'm assuming theres also a gasket in there.

I'm not sure what to do about this. Has anybody else experienced this ? Is this a minor thing or a major thing ? My local dealer has closed so my next closest is approx. an hour away but it looks like a small enough leak to drive it up there.

btw, its still under warranty.

Any information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what year?
how many miles are on the bike?
Has the dealer ever had the stator cover off the bike?
I have never heard of this problem on the 1125's.
One thing i would check is the oil level, maybe it has to much oil in it?

model yr. 2009, 2080 miles. Stator cover has never been off. Only been to the dealer for the harness upgrade.

After a short ride I checked the oil and it was slightly low, definitely not over filled.

Cover just pops off held with o-ring pressure like the one on clutch cover, there is a snap ring under it and a sealing sleeve with an o-ring,maybe sitting has made o-ring stiff. What happened after riding it?
You might want to park it more upright if it is sitting in very cold conditions for long periods.Got a rear stand?

Is it possible the oil could be coming from somewhere else other than the puck?
Maybe that is just the path the oil decided to take to reach the floor?

This might be a long shot, but before disassembling anything, it might just be some oil might have got spilled at some point, and it finally just now found its way to the floor, you never know!

My 2008 1125R was leaking. I replaced the gasket myself. Problem solved. The gasket was not properly installed from the factory - it was pinched. Easy to replace the gasket, just make yourself guiding tool from 6mm bolts. Strong magnet pull makes it very difficult to align the cover w/out the tool.

Thanks for the suggestions and information so far. I took a picture before cleaning it off, hopefully I can figure out the upload process.

I did not pop the cover off before cleaning it. If the leak reappears I will pop the cover to verify that its starting from here.

Your oil filter cover leaking too, big time. I found I have to give those 2 bolts a little extra bump from the specified torque specs... Not too much though.

The puck sure looks like the source of the leak. Maybe that's where the oil came from around the filter housing. Can't really tell from the picture, but makes sense.

Yup, I noticed the leak from the filter cover but that doesn't worry me. I need to wash it up and just re-torque them. At least that part of the engine I understand. I can do some basic maintenance but since I'm under warranty I will let the dealer fool with whatever is under the puck.

If it re-appears after washing I'll let the dealer fool with it. Maybe I'll give them a call first and talk with a mechanic to see if they understand what the issue might be.

here's what's under the puck -





A metal plug with an o-ring goes in there with a circlip holding it in (not shown)
The puck pries off, it's held with a o-ring like the other side.
This is the end of the crankshaft you turn the motor to check the valves.

Zac4mac. Thanks for the picture. I called the dealer and talked to a mechanic. He explained whats under the cover and told me to pop it off and verify that the snap ring and o ring look ok, not cockeyed or torn or anything.

Even if I bring it in it *should* be relatively minor.
