To complete the warranty work on my bike...
Oh and several phone calls to HD.

Too bad it will be late Jan before I get back to ride it, but at least the bike was finished in the same year it went in for warranty : )

Let's see here were the issues addressed

3 clusters
2 ECMs
Front rotor
Front pads
Fuel pump
Clutch weep
Inner air box
Rear Master cylinder
And something else....I forgot

Anyways the dealers delivering the bike to the house. Hopefully it will still be in good shape when I get home.

Wow - that's quite a list, why are there multiples of the same thing?

3 Clusters and 2 ECMs smacks of a dealer in desperation not pairing them correctly (but I may be being unfair to the dealer there)
What happened to your inner air box? (just out of interest)

Glad you're getting it back, shame about the timing!

There's a new stratagy: Keep the bike in the shop until the warranty runs out.

Seriously though... If they keep the bike for 6 months (25% of the standard warranty coverage time frame) could you ask for 6months to be added on?

They will freak but in a game of cards aim high (6 mon.) and take 3 mon. I would say its worth asking. You weren't ridding it.

Curious about the inner airbox. Mine has started to sag onto the throttle linkage limiting the opening (among other issues discussed here before). I've trimmed the stiffening ribs 3x, will trim so more in a bit. Why the new inner airbox on yours?
Thanks, Larry

Yea once i get back stateside where i can have a decent phone conversation i plan on talk to HD about the 6 months the dealer had the bike..

As for the inner box, the lower portion of the inner box(connects to the TB's) separated when the mechanic was trying to take it off. apparently it is plastic welded, or whatever they call it, and the 2 pieces came apart. this would allow air to be sucked in past the air filter (bad for dusty climate like Nevada...

and yes the dealer was having issues pairing the cluster with the ecms.. First they somehow bricked the ecm and it was sent back to HD... once that was fixed they still couldn;t get it to work, 2nd cluster was paired with the ECM at HD and then i guess that one didn;t work correctly (speedo was acting like a tach). the last one finally paired correctly i guess. Oh somewhere in there the dealer ordered another ECm and had pairing issues...

the 6 month wait really didn;t bother to much since i'm over here in the dirt. the dealer knew this, but i still didn't expect it to take so long. i'm heading back soon and wanted make sure the bike was finished sometime this year lol.

Hopefully i don't have any more warranty issues. next warranty issue might warrant selling the bike and buying a BMW...

Steve -et-al -

Not just a broken air box base problem.

Put a 1000 mikes on the bike, remove the air box top. Notice the fine dirt (grit) all over the interior of the base.

I used some white grease and put a good bit all the way around the filter edge where it contacts to base.
No more dirt....!

I've gone with and without twice to verify, and the grease works to help keep the all of the dirt out.

Mike

Well base my base was broken, having a good seal on the air filter would still allow dirt and debris enter the engine past the filter...

Wish i had pics, but i don't at the moment.

This issue sin;t really a worry for me, poopy happens... It was just one of a "few" items fixed on the bike .

If your deployed harley will extend you coverage by your overseas service time. But you got to ask and prove it. After 6 months I would be demanding an extra 6 months on top of it all!

My bike is now almost two month now in the shop for repair, because they don't have the tool to repair my forks-they're making a strange noise. I'm also getting a new harness and a clutch weep repair (they replaced only one seal ?!?!?) and I'm not getting extended warrenty

The Front rotor and pads was changed due to pulsating in the front brakes.

After reading here is seems to be something with the compound used in the brake pads on the 08 models...

another rider claimed i wasn't hard enough on the front brakes LOL.. who knows.

I've been waiting since October (2009) for a front brake hose. It probably showed up in June or July though and they forgot to call me.

I would post a pic, but i'm here, and the bike is WAY over there.... ; )

Basically it looked Black from brake pad residue and had some pulsating in the lever.

Looking at threads from here i'm sure that was the issue...
