I loved my 2006 XB12Scg .. and I traded it in when I bought the 2009 1125CR. Although my CR never had any issues (only 1800 miles on it) ... I decided to bail on the 1125 platform.

I put an add on Craigslist and just got back from trading it for an 2009 XB12Scg with only 200 miles on it ... not even broken in yet.

It actually feels nice having the Harley thumper back under the saddle ....

At least you kept it in the family! Both are great bikes.

The best part is we did an even trade ..... his title for mine.

In my Craigslist ad I said I indicated I wanted to trade for a XB12Scg ... the owner emailed me this morning and said he had an XB12SS he would be willing to trade. He bought it brand new in October and never rode it. I wasn't too hip on an SS since I have short inseam and loved my XB12Scg. When I went to his house tonight the first thing I notice was the YELLOW spring and I was thrilled. I never did tell the guy it was really a cg and not an SS ... worked out perfectly.

It is hard to choose..... Got the XB12S last Nov (coming off a HD Sportster) and thought, "Where have you been all my life?". Just got the 1125R last Monday and love it even more. Still have both so far....

I always thought that the XB was the best looking bike that Buell made. Now with the 1190RR, its a close 2nd. I love my 1125R but its not quite as pretty as your XB. Great bike!

You may have traded 'down' in power, but you traded 'up' in value. Sweet looking bike...Cherry bomb was always my favorite!

i got my 07 Scg in November '06. still have it with 18000 on the clock. i got a 2010 CR just after Christmas. they are very different bikes and i enjoy riding one or the other, no real preference, except for the Scg is better in the real tight twisty stuff. but then the CR owns the faster roads.

A trade up in dollar value, maybe, and we'll see in the long run, but in riding value there's no comparison for me. The H-D motor just doesn't do the job for me; I far prefer the 1125. Different strokes (and I mean that) for different folks. That's the cool thing here, two people walk away happy!

Absolutely ^^.

That is part of the crime with HD. If they only marketed Buell correctly with the proper level of support, they could appease many different customers between their two engine platforms. Of course, now I'm beating a dead horse, haha.

Ther's no escaping it - that is a seriously good looking bike.. I prefer the looks to the CR and I kinda like the old HD thumper motor too.. Don't think I'd trade my "R" for one but would definately have one as a stable mate.

I don't think you're going to regret that decision anytime soon : )

Looks awesome, congrats.

A CR or that, would be a tough decision for me. I have an R, but the CR is the most'fun' Buell I've ridden. But man I'd love to have an SS (I'm taller myself).

I think we need to add a Buell saying -
"Buell, you can't just have one"

I think Erik would especially like that one.

Dman, I hear you. I had been thinking about a Ulysses XB12X for a year when the factory closed. I sat on a used XB12S Lightning out of boredom waiting to pick up the Sportster after a clutch repair, and it felt really nice. Got a smoking deal, 2800 miles, already had a D&D pipe & new map. After just 1 afternoon I was thinking "Where have you been all my life!". I felt like I was on wings compared to the 20K I'd put on the XL 1200R. The only drawback was that there was only 1/2 of a passenger seat.

After 5 months of solo riding, I finally found a really nice used Uly that I could use to give rides or take on vacation. It handles just almost identically to its smaller brother, but you gotta love that tall suspension over the broken pavement that passes for roads these days. Put 10K miles on it on vacations in just 6 months..... : ) Oh yea, it can also handle some pretty rough dirt roads if you are in the mood.

With all the fire-sales going on over the past year, I finally succumed to the call of the 1125R. I wanted to at least try out a racier bike, and I really missed having a fairing once you get over 100 mph. I was also interested in seeing how much difference the more powerful motor made, or the more track-like setup (not to mention having a track-oriented bike for trackdays). So last week, blackie joined the ever growing herd of Buells in the garage. : )

After less than 500 miles so far, the 1125R does really impress. It can probably do twice as much as its rider can at this point (hopefully my skills will continue to grow). I think of it as my street-legal race bike, and it is a monster going up Palomar Mountain here in San Diego. The Lightning I think of as my hot-rod, fun and throaty with tons of torque and character. The Uly is my comfy sport/touring bike, ready to take the girlfriend out for the afternoon or slalom through the Sierras on a long vacation with full camping gear. It's also pretty darn good at answering the question, "I wonder how far that dirt road goes...?"

Lord help me if the 1190RS comes out for a decent price....... : (

Alan

The bike that started it all.

Alan, i hear you on Palamar. The XB always grunted up when i kept her in 3rd gear, but with the tall gearing of the 1125, all i need is 2nd gear and it pulls like a champ all the way to the top.
