So I picked up my bike in Dec 09. I have only 4,400 miles on her and the exhaust is rusting like mad up front where just behind where the headers connect. That got me thinking of life expectancy of a stock exhaust. The way this muffler looks I'm expecting it to give out by 6K miles. Yeah I know great excuse to get a new muffler. But I still got warranty on the bike for 3.5 more years. I read the passed thread "rust on muffler" and was wondering if anybody has had any more luck on replacing the muffler under warranty and the powered coating thing too. Yes I realized the thing will still rust from the inside out. But at least it will not look like sh*t.
Why do I want another stock muffler? Because I don't want to give the coppers and clue I'm coming. I might not like the look of it, but I sure do like being stealthy riding through towns the way I do.

Take it off, clean it up;
1. get a rattle can of exhaust header or BBQ paint, and have at it.
OR
2. get it ceramic coated.

Yeah, but why spend my time and money if I can get a new one under warranty Danny?

Why spend your time on the forum asking if you're just going to get a new one.

Only way to know if it's warranty-able is to ask the dealer.

Mine offered to replace mine when I had 200 miles on it because it was "rusting", I just cleaned it up and sprayed it with BBQ paint and then later on I replaced it with a Barker.

I know it's under warranty and some people think that means there is no need to look after it my personality won't let me think that way..

You should be covered,even if it's cosmetic

Just an FYI...

I had some dent damage to my original stock exhaust from a trackday spill, but I was able to get a used replacement from another member here who got an aftermarket system. This was over a year ago, and I paid $100 for it (it was virtually new).

XnoahX, I'm not sure if I'd get a new one or not. I guess I just should have asked, "Has anyone rusted out their stock exhaust?" If so at about how many miles did it rust through at.

I am hearing good things about the warranty covering it so I am not worried about it. I think I'll just let it go and during the last year of the warranty hit up the dealer for a new can.

~Many thanks for input guys.

I've never heard of anyone rusting through a stock exhaust on any Buell. They all do get surface rust, its just a fact of life given the steel they are made out of.
