The Facebook page said they were running a very conservative setup because May has very little time on the bike, and so he can adjust to it. Cant wait till he gets used to it!

The rules are quite open for the GTO class. Geoff raced a GSXR 600 in GTU class and will race the 1190RR in GTO.

Race Classes
Race classes are GTU and GTO, which essentially are middleweight and open classes that allow nearly unlimited modifications and have no homologation rules. Displacement and modification limits are given below.

GTU Class Limits:

1.Up to 430cc two or more cylinder two stroke, unlimited origin
2.Up to 550cc two or more cylinder two stroke, if frame is from a motorcycle manufactured for street use in North America
3.Up to 550cc single cylinder two stroke, unlimited origin
4.Up to 675cc three cylinder four stroke, liquid cooled
5.Up to 640cc four cylinder four stoke, liquid cooled
6.Up to 850cc two cylinder four stroke four or more valves per cylinder, liquid cooled
7.Up to 900cc three or more cylinder four stroke, air cooled
8.Unlimited displacement, air-cooled, two-cylinder, four-stroke
9.Unlimited displacement single cylinder four stroke, unlimited origin
10.Forced induction (e.g., turbo- or super-charging) is not allowed

GTO Class Limits:

1.Unlimited displacement and origin
2.Forced induction (e.g., turbo- or super-charging) is allowed for bikes under 750cc displacement only.

Had a nice talk with Erik today. He said that they lost a head gasket on the 1190 motor, so they've been running an 1125 motor on the 1190RR chassis (save for the 1125RR tail section). Despite that, Geoff has still been very competitive.

Also, they delayed the start of the final qualifying practice this morning, which was supposed to run from 9:00 - 9:20. It actually started at 9:10 but still ended at 9:20. Geoff took a couple warm up laps then pulled into the pits to wait for the track to clear so he could make a couple of flying laps. But by the time he did that, they were checker flagging the session so he didn't get any fast laps in.

Barker,

The Erik Buell Racing 1190RR is not approved for WSBK either. The folks at Miller Motorsports part are running their own Superbike challenge during the WSBK weekend for which the 1190RR is good to go. : )

ASR - I think we may have spoken briefly on Sunday afternoon..

EB said something about Geoff liking the suspension setup better on the 1190 so they swapped 1125 motor into 1190 frame. I wouldn't swear to it, but that's what I thought he said somewhere between a bunch of other stuff...

Just got home tonight! What a weekend!!! Congratulations to Geoff, Erik, and the whole Erik Buell Racing crew on the podium finish!!!!! You worked through adversity, against some serious competition, and came through when it counted. Well done : )

I finally got a chance to spend a little quality time with my computer and sifted through the thousand or so pictures & videos I took. Here's the best of what I got so far:

Hey! Bob Sweeney is in one of the pics.

Bob used to work tuning for Buell teams last year (employee of Buell).

Did you talk to him? What is he up to now?

Bob is about 5'-10" short hair, blond in the early 30ies. He pictured on the right side of the bike in your second picture from the top.

That's fantastic news, Chevy. Last I saw him was at Willow and he was looking for a job.

Good to see he's with Erik Buell Racing. An incredible talent pool is being built.

It was really hard to decide who to cheer for, the Buell or Chris Peris who is from my home town and club. It was great racing and I was happy Chris got second. I just want to know where everyone was? The stands in turn one were empty.

Doerman, I didn't get a chance to talk with Bob. He was glued to his laptop almost every time we stopped by. I was trying to be as unobtrusive as possible as the guys were obviously very busy.

Vinix, thank you very much. It was a lot of fun getting them : )

Augustus, yep they sure did let us sit on the race bikes! We stopped by after the race to say congratulations on the podium finish. The guys were busy packing everything up, but they were gracious enough to let us swing a leg over. They also sent us home with some schwag, but they made me promise not to tell Erik, so I'll just leave it at that : )

Smoke4ndmears, you are very welcome!

Great photos!

Remember all the sourpuss squawking about how f'ugly Buells are?

Well -- this bike is objectively, undeniably, beautiful.

I think it'd look just a tad better with one small change though -- with me on it!
