I'm trying to sort the wheat from the chaff here : )

Please, only reports using the ECMs in legal motor sports (off highway) applications.

State your pipe, Flash, application, and experiences.

Thanks.

I finally got a session in with mine. The track was wet, cold (40F), and slick as an ice rink, but none the less I gave it a go!

Mine is an 08, FMF Slip-on, and the sticker on the race ECM indicates "062" tune. I'd talked to them about the 052 tune, so not sure what the differences are. As I'm just a track day guy, I didn't want to be limited to running race fuel only.

Honestly, I'm not sure I can tell a lot of difference. The motor did seem a bit smoother, but as I was concentrating on a VERY loose set of wheels the whole time, I didn't get a chance to really wring it out.

One the 1/2 mile back straight, WOT through the gears was smoother -- it seems -- and the sounds the motor seems like it's smoother -- less vibration?!?! Don't know how this is possible or if my buttometer is just confused.

I am getting some popping on decel under 4k, but way less than OEM. EBR had mentioned they need "really good" pump gas or something like 260 GT Plus to make the map appropriately rich, and I was running ethanol blended pump 93. I'll try a tank of "good" 93 from the track next time out.

I only ran for 20 minutes -- conditions were horrible.

Jim, good post. Last year I bought a Torque Hammer and map from Dris for my track only bike. I was traveling for work at the time and couldn't get to the track until some time in May. The first time out was on the local track, Sandia. Very short 2 gear track. The bike “seemed” to pull more, but the sound confused me. Great sound but was the performance an illusion? Were my buttmetter readings valid?

Next time on track was June 13th. I got less than 20 minutes track time before a trackday/street first time on a track rider, unexpectedly pulled right in front of me in a turn, so I hit the front brake, locked the wheel, went over the bars, broke collar bone/ribs and got a tension pneumothorax. Then I was out of work for 5 1/2 months (not only because of the hospital time). Unsympathetic sponsor was in no rush to help me get back to the track....

My next track time is next weekend, both days. It’s my favorite track, Arroyo Seco in southern New Mexico. I also have a Starlane Athon (I saw your new, smaller version and I’m jealous) that I’ve yet to use. I know my old times, but I wish I’d had the Athon with the stock pipe so I could do a real comparison.

The bottom line is, I think we have to trust our buttmeters and verify our results with the lap timers. Have you ever read the book by Kenny Roberts on riding technique? He talks about this some. Buttmeters are important, and the ability to express your values is invaluable. However, I think our GPS lap timers are the answer (they didn’t have them in the 80’s when Kenny’s book was written). Can you feel 5 more horsepower? I don’t think I can. For whatever they are worth, I will post my impressions after next weekend.

I'm looking forward to a track day warm enough I can start deliberately working the rear wheel. To me, being able to use the throttle for steering is where you start to really get a feel for the smoothness of a map.

Generally, we get to ride in Jan/Feb quite a bit. This year (and last) have been unseasonably wet, cold and generally miserable. : (

Jim, we've talked about this before, you need to come to Arroyo! I also realize I need to come over to Texas and ride too. One of the guys from Arroyo just moved to Dallas. It could be a lot of fun.

When I was a teenager, in the 60's, I road a Bultaco Pursang on dirt tracks, and in the early 70's I road an Astro. Steering with the rear wheel is not unfamiliar to me. I just don't have enough time yet to do that on track with the Buell. I can get the rear wheel to spin, I'm just not confident enough to use it to my advantage, yet. Then again I am 60 now and don't really want to break any more bones on the track. I'm having fun now and will progress.

Finally got a proper track day in!

I have no idea if total power is up or down, but I love this fueling!

I'm on the "062" cal, and I can day it delivers power much smoother and more predictably than before.

Also, I noticed cold starts are a lot more dependable.
