I haven't had a problem yet since all of the riding that I got in after purchase was cold as hell... But I've seen that many people have had problems with this. Is there an actual service bulletin for the mounting spacers, or is this just something that some dealers (or individuals) are doing?

There is a tech tip #419 dated 11/18, dealing w/ this, no spacers are mentioned, just loosen and adjust the lower brackets to gain 1/4"clearance

Put the 1st 650 miles on my R recently and just noticed the right lower was starting to change shape a bit from the heat. I took it back to the dealer and they are ordering a replacement (I hope).

Guess I'm stupid. Took two tries to install lowers. Put 1500mi since and only problem is insulation coming off- yellow gorilla snot fixed that...recall? how bout a proper install....spacers are in kit. Instructions not good but use the brain- hope I am not too harsh; just real. If Dealer did install they should replace at no charge.

Bobbuell is right about the tech tip. It clearly states no warranty will be done as they attribute improper installation as the culprit if your fairing melts.

If the dealer screwed up the installation, they will end up eating the cost of the repair. They just won't get reimbursed by the mothership.

That was the idea Froggy. My R came with them installed by the dealer so I am going back to them for the fix.

mine were dealer installed... and fairing is touching the header! I haven't looked close enough to see if there are spacers in the bottom, sounds like you could just loosen it and shift it to the right (correct?) but if I don't get around to it in my cold garage I'll swing by the dealer in the spring.

Mine were not touching originaly, after having service completed to the bike, the fairings did touch. it slightly warped the faring, but barely noticable, i went back and the local dealer added spacers. i was also told about the tech tip...

Just make sure you got the clearance. I've since logged 1600+ miles in the last week and half and have no issues with the fairings.
