I won't be getting my bike back for a couple weeks clutch) so I was thinking of having them pull the pipes off and sending the to Performance Coating in Dallas for ceramic coating. I was also going to talk to them about coating the outside of the muffler, all in black. The oem coating looks like crap and I don't know of any other that will look good after a few heat cycles. I think black on black look great. Cost is reasonable @ $100 for the pipes $15 for the shield and $50 for the muffler + shipping & tax w/ 72hr turn around. Better exhaust savaging and a little more heat reduction for summers in Houston +100f sitting in traffic is like being in a frying pan!!! (anyone dealt w/ Crazy Dog Racing for track setup here in the Houston area?) Thoughts? Les | ||

I am curious to see how much that will reduce the heat, I live in Central Florida so I feel your pain about sitting in traffic! Let us know how it goes. | ||

Don't know Crazy Dog but the proof should be in his customer base...ask 4 it and call them. Coatings are proven better than a wrap job on a naturally aspirated engine. The 11 has near zero anti magnetic s/s steel for primaries...guess would be 304 grade. I fully wrapped my 08's primary tubes way back early in the year while still in Florida's summer heat...along with insulating the inner frame. While I did note a minor reduction in overall temps, we didn't have the latest flash then! Since this new flash, I've removed all the insulation wrap, ect. The engine is happier now and all is right in the world. Wrapping WILL degrade the life of the pipe under it...as mine showed...that is why they are now BLACK!  Ceramic coating WILL reduce transmitted heat to a slight degree but any thing helps and this is the best route. Note, you do have to lower the engine down to get the rear primary out. I also had to weld up a special 10mm 1/4 drive shallow socket to a cutoff handle in order to access the header studs. It's tight in there! Make sure to remove the sensor located behind the rh side of the engine, behind the rear primary...it breaks off easily! I've reglued w/CA mine, twice now. I say GO for the ceramics! Its been proven for many years in other motorsports...just stay away from the wrap job. Hope this helps!...if not, research proper riding gear! Just to let you know I put ceramic coated headers on my 1125R. It did absolutely nothing in regards to heat in my opinion. Looks much better now though. I went with Silver coating. P.S. I had the ceramic coated headers on with the stock exhaust also for a few months.  | ||

Just got mine back from being ceramic coated today. It will not be going on the bike till the 12K service. I will then also have the headers removed and coated.  | ||

Local guy out of Oaksboro, NC. $140 His business name is Firefox Coatings. He has been doing metal coatings for 20 years and does work for a lot of local race teams. |
