I'm puzzled...

I arrived at the office yesterday around 6:30 am on the Dyna. I parked it in my usual spot designated for motorcycles only. The work day proceeded as usual. I got down to my bike around 4:15 pm and saw some strange shite.

There was potting soil on the bike from the front fender all the way to the seat. Nothing spilled over onto the engine, AC housing, etc. Nothing on any of the other bikes. Nothing on the ground. Nothing from the ceiling. No apparent natural cause for ANY type of potting soil droppage - especially one so accurate.

The Honda cruiser (German dude with a gnarly limp - nice enough) and little scooter (a nice lady who unfortunately has NO business being on 2 wheels) parked there are both regulars.

I hate to succumb to thoughts of being the target of someone whose smelliest bodily orifice has taken over his existence.

Prank? Vandalism? Revenge for something I don't even know I did? I hate to think that the next thing I'll find is said potting soil in the oil or some key marks or...

Bomber,
You must have missed my "porcelin" post elsewhere.;)

Saro,
Sounds weird, and too accurate to be a leaky-bag mishap. A bike cover comes to mind as a temporary prudent action to take.

A bike cover with NO logo on it is better. It attracts less attention. Sounds like someone was trying to compost your bike!

When I moved to the UK we had 3 channels. On cable!!! And man did BBC and ITV programming suck! I spent those 4 years away from the tube and had a blast. Been like that ever since.

No tube = more fun!

Saro,

I might clean the bike, polish the chrome, wash it down... and then plant a camera under a rock in front of it and see if you could get them to do it again on film, maybe post photos on the BBS... OR NOT !!!

Saro's concern is well founded, and a bike cover won't prevent the truly twisted from doing worse. Fortunately the oil filler cap is under a locked seat and the gas cap has a lock, but a box cutter to a front tire sidewall is a real caution as is a partially loosened oil filter.

Russ-

You'd be right if I had a big Buell. However, I have a Blast - and it wasn't the Blast this happened to - it was the Dyna. No locking gas cap, oil cap handily exposed on the right side of the bike. Anyone with 2 spare fingers can have their way.

I don't wanna get all paranoid - though I'm keeping my eyes open. Another incident and I WILL have a camera pointed at the bike. I'm fairly easy going but I don't take people messing with my life lightly as the poor drunk sap found out earlier this year. I HOPE beyond all hope that this was simply an isolated incident - not targeted at me or anyone in particular but simply someone visiting the Cheescake Factory who hates Harleys.

Whatever...

I don't know who caused this nifty LSR poster to be sent to us, but I would like to thank them very much.

It's a very snappy, framed, poster and will fit into my collection perfectly.

Again, Thanky...Thanky very much!!!

The person who did that soil thing will show you, or the world, something. That is not a kind of person for mean, weird, tricks. He/she must even have had a hard time to think out how to show her/his disgust without bringing any real damage to your bike. Nothing to worry about. Just wash it off.
Hans.

INFORMATION REQUEST!!
I noticed a set of Heads from a 1996 Buell S2-T the other day for sale. Are these heads ANY good or are they just like the stock Sportster 1200 heads?
Are they comparable to Lightning heads? Forgive my ignorance...I ride a Sportster and am searching for new heads to give me some more power. Thanks for your opinions on these S2-T heads.

That's what I suspected (being stock XL heads). I won't waste my money on them. This guy was trying to tell me they were just like the Lightning heads. I knew it was BS.
BUELL CONTENT:
I am planning on buying a Buell (used of course) early next year with my Tax Return. Hoping to find a decent condition X1 or M2 (as new as possible) for around $5000 that I can have fun with. Do you think that is doable? What years/mileage should I be able to find in that price range?

Absolutely. Go with the M2 and keep an eye on the classifieds here and e-bay

Jose':

I owe you a MAJOR BOY HUG for illustrating a point I've been making in another discussion.

I have just spent the last 30 minutes trying to BUY, that's right PURCHASE as in swap dollars for product, a Laverda SFC1000.

First I went to the Italian website. Interesting, fascinating bike, premium components and, in fact, everything you professed it to be.

Next I tried (note that word, this gets better) to find the USA dealer network. Ahh.....MotoLaverdaUSA keeps tossing me back the Italian site.

So, I figure, who has the most to gain by seizing a chunck of hard earned cash but a DEALER. I started searching on the internet, noted 3 phone numbers and rang those babies up.

I just put down the phone after talking to the fellow in the Boston area.....let's listen in now....

Court: I see you are a Laverda dealer?

Dealer: Long silence......well we used to be years ago.

Court: I am fascinated with the new SFC1000 and would like to come test ride one and, if I like it, but one.

Dealer: The what?

Court: The SFC1000

Dealer: Well, it sounds interesting but Laverda has no US Dealer Network. We dropped them cause they were so disorganized and difficult to do business with.

Court: Well, this bike looks to be a world beater. You'll be jumping back on the band wagon, I assume?

Dealer: Frankly, I doubt it. Laverda would have to get anything they hope to sell past DOT, customs and all the regulatory agencies. The last time they tried that, with their staff of 2, the spent 3 years and never go any of the paperwork filled out properly.

Court: Is there still an importer?

Dealer: Not that I am aware of, but like I said, we dropped several years ago.

Court: Well, I'd sure like to find one of these things.

Dealer: The only way, would be to go to Europe and do the "gray market" thing.

Court: If I could do that, do you still have a contact for parts and support?

Dealer: You have to be kidding? We couldn't get parts when they had an importer, I'd say you'd likely be on your own.

I'm going to keep trying to find out how soon and where a person can buy one of these. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a fabulous motorcycle and I'm really impressed with the components and kinda digging that exhaust system. But, it sounds like a person discontent with say Buell parts delivery, who decides to go this route is in for, let's say, an experience.

Does anybody know of any dealer who sells Laverda in the United States? I know of 3 former dealers who say Laverda is not imported, but I could be wrong.

I gave up after calling the resident Leverda "expert" in the United States at 1-800-LAVERDA and getting the "we're sorry, but your call can not be completed" message.....

I'm getting a major Lightning urge......

ksims,

I would check out the heads a little more. There were two types of heads on those bikes, bathtub and hemi. If they are the relative rarer hemi heads they would be of value to someone going racing. Either way they would not be of much use in a street application.

Well.......we'll soon know more, I waiting on Aprilia USA's business development manager to call me back to get to thh bottom of this. They make no mention of the SFC1000 on any of their websites, looks like an MO scoop!

I tried calling all the local Aprilia dealers. None of them has ever heard of the SFC1000 and told me "Laverda is out of business". I'm asking why Aprilia, if they were planning on importing this thing, wouldn't had shed the shackled name or at least told the dealers.

We'll see if the business development people know. Aprilia, just as a sidebar, has an EXCELLENT US staff and is doing some way neat things.

Aprilia customer service rocks !

Call back was within minutes. There harbor little more optimism than the former Laverda deler network.

Terms like "when and if" and "nothings been mentioned about it" seem to fill the conversation. I asked if any US homolgation had been initiated and the answer was no. So, under streamlined circumstances, I'd plan on a couple years hence.

If you need me, I'll be out riding.

Court

P.S. - A huge thumbs up to Aprilia USA. Prompt return call and no dance about the bush bullshit. Straight answers and well informed.
