Cyclone rider in East Windsor, NJ? Noticed a nice Cyclone, red with blue frame & wheels riding up & down Hickory Corner Rd. by Lee's Turkey farm. Sounded awesome. didn't get a chance to wave him down. Anybody from this site?

Thank you and your countrymen for sending over some mongo big pumps to help dry out New Orleans. Same to the Germans. We appreciate your support big time! : )

There are a few other Nederlanders lurking here abouts. Be careful what you say though, one of them is a real tough guy policeman. ; )

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post this, I just wanted to make sure this reaches as many people as possible.

I just got a phone call from the guys at Ray Price. They want to do a meet and greet for Buell riders and riders of other sport bikes to show that they're serious about the Buell market and to generate interest for starting a BRAG club. The event will take place on September 30th from 6pm-7pm. They'll provide pizza and drinks. They asked that if you plan on attending that you RSVP with either Mike Miller (parts), Larry Simpson (sales), or Eric Wagner (sales manager).

Ok I see my mistake, never confuse love for bike for actual value....I realize my baby vocalizations about the worth of my bike are truly flawed, It is worth the money I put in, the 3 summers I missed because of mechanical failures, but It is agreat S3 and like my posts under stress of complaining about it's worth It is what it is and my memories on the bike are truly all that matters.
PS this was also no time to bitch about fault regarding Gulf and I apologize.
Baby due in 2 weeks and got slammed by bad news for dumb old Finances, but what is really important in life?
I live in a awesome Country and love it FYI.
But, always feels beter to bitch!!! I have nothing to complain about, except the Mariner's!!!!

Not to change the subject.....

But, I am a bit giddy right now.

It would appear that I am about to join the ranks of the real old skool Buellers. Well next week that is.

As I take possession of a '92 RS1200.

Tim,

That is the one. After standing next to it, made sense to let it roost in my barn.

and to think I was looking for a S2 or a carbed S3.

First time in a long time there will be two(more than one) rides in the stable.

Not likely, but I will check to be sure. More likely is that your post simply didn't get posted. Thanks for your consideration.

$4200

Greetings everyone.....I'm new to this whole Buell thing and I have a few questions I hope some of you experienced Buell riders can help me with. I've been riding sportbikes for about 15 years now and am tired of the whole crouched over cookie cutter race bike thing. I saw a Buell on the road a couple of months ago and fell in love with it. So I'm thinking about getting one for the above mentioned reasons, plus I'd like to buy an American bike but I'm just not ready for the whole Harley cruiser thing. I'm thinking a Buell XB12Ss would be the perfect compromise for me. Here's my questions........1)I'm a little concerned about an air/oil cooled motor overheating, should I be concerned about this? 2)In your opinion, at approximately what speed does the wind blast become irritating on the Lightning models?....(sure is a small windscreen) 3)Does anyone make an aftermarket windscreen for the Lightning that's a little taller? 4)Does the motor have enough power for two up riding at interstate speeds without noticing any dramatic power loss? 5)Has anyone here gone from a jap sportbike to a Buell and regretted it? Any help will be greatly appreciated, and please feel free to add any other comments or opinions if you'd like; I'm about to drop 11 grand on this thing and I want to make sure I'm not going to regret it. Thanks and God bless.

I have little doubt my air / oil cooled Buell would outlast any watercooled inline four in a heat torture test. The Buell engines run hotter by design, and so always have a decent thermal gradient they can dump heat through. The cooler running water cooled bikes can get "stuck" when it is really hot ambient, and the difference between their temperature and the air temperature around them is a small difference... they have a hard time shedding heat.

I went from a Yamaha Radian (600cc inline four standard bike) to a Buell twin, and would never go back to an inline four. An inline four does more of what I don't want to do, the Buell engine does more of what I do want to do. YMMV. An R1 or ZX10 will smoke you at top speed, the Buell motor "sounds right".

Try the stock windscreen before messing with it. It creates a nice pocket of air with no buffeting. In my experience, taller windscreens just move buffeting to more annoying places. Buell did some clever things with wind tunnels on the lightnings that I don't pretend to understand, but really appreciate. The handguards from the 9sx make a huge difference as well.

God Bless... and God Speed ; )

WRT to 2 up riding, I don't think the motor is going to be the limiting factor. If you have someone small enough to fit back there, the motor will be fine. There just doesn't seem to be much passenger room. Have you looked at the XB12X? It's a new Buell bike that would be much better for 2 up riding.

As for overheating, I've never had a problem, and I hardly every hear anyone complaining about it.

An astoundingly revolting development:

HONDA DEVELOPS AIRBAGS FOR MOTORCYCLES
TOKYO (AP) - Honda Motor Co. has developed airbags for motorcycles that the Japanese automaker says is the world's first for production motorcycles.

The airbag, which inflates after sensors detect an oncoming crash, will be available on the new Gold Wing motorcycle that will go on sale in spring 2006 in the United States, Honda said Thursday. Tokyo-based Honda said the airbags will reduce injuries in head-on collisions.

The airbag opens in front of the riders and reduces the speed at which they get thrown from the motorcycle, lessening injuries when they hit the road or another vehicle, it said.

To which I politely say, "Oh s**t." As soon as our rabid legislators learn of this, the damn things will be mandatory. I need a beer.

Ara,
Hate to tell you this, but several years ago Harley-Davidson was running ads in the local newspaper looking for automotive engineers with air bag technology experience.
They are coming.
Michelin Man personified.

The thing I wonder about is if the sensors set off the airbag before an impact, then how many accidental inflations will there be when riders are riding on twisty roads with oncoming traffic in opposing lanes. It would be kind of hard for a sensor to detect if the oncoming vehicle is just coming around a bend or coming in the same lane.

Erick,

1)I very hot areas, I'd want an oil cooler. In Sacramento, it will get above 110° and the engine would ping. At those temps on my Honda, the fan kicks on and if I'm not moving, I've never seen higher than 220° and I've never been worried about the water cooled engine overheating.

2) Windblast never bothered me on my naked Buell. I wear a full face helmet, though.

3) Dunno

4) Plenty of torque for two up. The suspension and seat are your limiting factors.

5) Sold Buell, bought a Honda.

Heya Tom!

Racing goes well. AFM is an extremely tough club and I'm just now starting to break into the fast pack.

I'm actually taking this weekend off as it's a huge strain on the ol' savings account. It works out because we're running a best 8 of 9 series, so this is my throw away.

GMC:

No petcock. When the gas light comes on, get gas NOW. It tends to vary from bike to bike; but, on my own Buell, the reserve was good for about 15 miles.

GMC,
When the reserve light goes on, find the nearest station.
A friends bike had to coast into a station about 10 minutes after the light came on.

Newbie,
I went from a Yamah FZ 600 (same engine as Reepi's Radian)to a 98 thunderbolt. Both were air cooled engines. The Buell is way more fun. The Yamaha was way more reliable.
I stick with the Twin. Can't comment on watercooled bikes, never owned one.

Keep an eye on the Nextel Cup schedule for 2006, let's see if we can't get you to an event on the West Coast.

Have a good weekend off.

We get two (2) Sunday's off between now and Thanksgiving.

Have a great weekend.

There's always the Sears Point round. I need to send a thank you letter to NASCAR for being the catalyst for the new and improved highway 37. It's a beautiful straight shot through Vallejo now.

Yes, they indeed did a good job with that.

Still a bit of a hassle to get back to Oakland to fly out, but they have indeed made some improvements.
