Well,It's about that time!!Laguna Seca is just around the corner and the Logistics to this event are mind boggling.I'll try and include the pertinent info on finding the Loveshack and how things generally work at this event.

1.Getting to the track.
Hwy 68 is NOT a good way into the track on a weekend of this magnitude!Find the way into the back via Barloy Canyon Road or South Boundary Road
Off of North-South Road.Barloy Canyon goes straight to the Camping Gate so if your coming directly to the Love Shack start calling us as soon as your on your way over the road and that way we'll be ready at the Gate with the Support vehicle pass.You will need your 3 day pass also to get in at this gate.

2.Getting INTO the track.
Entering at the HWY 68 gate you will need to turn in your tickets around the first corner.Once you've been in the park you only need show the wristband on your left wrist to enter each time.If you have Will Call ticket you need to go to the Will Call Hotel first to pick up your tickets.The front gate has a curfew,usually around midnight,however this weekend may be different considering the crowds and habits of our European Guests.
Entering through the back gates are a little more of a challenge.South Boundary Road is great during the day as you will enter the track at the corner by the Administration building.HOWEVER!!!The speed limit on this road is 35 MPH and they are NOT kidding!!!They have State Police on this road and 2 miles over will net you a ticket!!
If your on this road at night you may run into a closed gate once you get to the track...follow the road to the left and the second gate MAY be open.If not it's a long way back so try and get the attention of a track worker and we've gotten in this way before.
Coming in on Barloy is great ALL the time cause they cant lock you out going this way....in fact years ago I've got in VERY late at night so long as the gate was open at the Military Barracks back in Salinas where you enter.If they ARE locked just head up 68 and try the front gate.

Whats impressive (and damn I LOOKED all through my photos just to show it) is when you see Hawaiian/Samoan men that size riding Honda Elite50 scooters...at 50mph...(yes the motors are WORKED) Ask some of the Hawaii riders at the sights seen on scooters...

'Missing belt'? What do you mean by that? Skipping, not there etc. I believe Reepicheep was thinking you needed a new belt. Dave at Appleton Buell is the man to go for parts, belts included, if that is what you are after. If not, post what you're after and we can help you out!

I see you are in Elizabeth.......I have good news.

Whatever you need, you may head just down 1-9 to Liberty Buell in Rahway. Ask for "Moose". He handles the Buell end of the business and Phil is the Buell Tech. They will have parts and be able to get you fixed up.

Dave Stueve, who Reep mentioned above, is the icon "Super Dealer" and is located in Appleton, WI. Now don't let the Appleton, WI fool you...Dave has proven time and time again that he KNOWS Buells, HAS parts and can have them to you pronto. That includes folks overseas.

There are a group of "star on the rise" Buell dealers and Liberty is among them. Good for you (In Elizabth) and me in NYC.

I did not recommend a local dealer, as I did not know if your local dealer was up to getting the right part or not. I am in Ohio, so I don't know anything about NY dealers.

Court is from NYC, and DOES know the local dealers, so if he says Moose is good, then Moose is your man.

I don't know ALL of them, but I do knopw alot of them.

My "home dealer" is the most awarded Harley-Davidson dealer in history and as a result I've met a number of dealers at events such as annual and mid-year dealer meetings and events such as the NFL Player's Banquest (I got to go with Christian Okoye, Dion Sanders and Jim Patterson (then President of Halrey-Davidson)) and one thing just seems to have lead to another.

I've also ridden into their various stores in 44 states, sometimes hanging out (like at Waugh's in Orange, VA) for 3 or 4 days, to see the ops and learn.

Liberty, in Rahway, NJ, is doing a bang up job and making a genuine effort to learn and play in the "Buell Big Leauge"

Far too many....ya know,in our group this is the "most looked forward to" event and takes FOREVER to get here.....and will be the fastest 3 days you ever spent.....and will depress me the most when it's over....and then its pure DRUDGERY...for the next 3 months awaiting the next incredible weekend....OKTOBERFAST!!!!!


OH YEAH.......Mind Bogglin' is right.......It's kinda like the old saying....Mind over Matter....but if you have no mind it Doesn't matter!!!

hey guys thanx for not beating me up. thanx for all the help as well,but i'm going to see if the dealer where i bought the bike from will waranty the belt as i just got the bike in december as an 03 leftover.i have already learned thet the belt is not up to the task on 03 models.if it's covered under waranty i'll put one on as a temp. until i put a chain on it. this is where my question lies...someone told me there is a web site that sells chain conversions that keep the stock swingarm by replacing the idler pulley with an idler sprocket. i've also heard about another that runs about $2,400.00 and requires the replacing of the swingarm. the first one i mentioned supposedly runs #600.00 wich i think converts to about $1,000.00. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can convert to the '04 belt setup for much less and retain the zero lash goodness : ).

15K miles on my 12R and I broke one belt (at about 5K)... It already had a small hole in it due to a rock being pushed through and it broke upon landing a jump...

The belt system is GOOD. No goo ALL OVER the rear of the bike, no adjustment, no lash, more efficient (from what I hear), less expensive in the long run, etc, etc...

i'm familiar with all the bennifits of a belt,and buells zero lash goodness...but i've heard of chains with the idler as well,even better with a spring loaded idler/tensioner.i have called my dealer and he is covering it under warranty.so that will give me time to shop and weigh my options. plus since i got the buell two things have been bothering me about it: 1-motorcycles are supposed to have chains. 2-motorcycles are supposed to have kickstarters. i know i'm a dinosaur but now i can remedy atleast one of the problems. so anyone who knows of different manufactures or has any reviews on any of these conversions.please share

Even my dirtbike (DR650) doesn't have a kickstarter. Belts are quiet, clean and usually last a long time. I changed my 1st one out at 50,000mi.
Unless you ride where there is a lot of gravel (ask Newfie) belts are a good bet.

Knot the belt the dealer will be placing on your bike under warrenty will also be an upgraded belt from what originally came on your bike. Though it isn;t the '04 upgrade, it is a stronger belt. I can attest to having 18000 miles on my '04 XB12 and my belt looks like it could go another 18000 miles. I can not say the same for any chain set up I have ever had on a motorcycle. Especially anything that had some torque behind it.

i really hope the new belt is an upgraded piece. i just dropped my bike off at the dealer today. told him that the company should have a recall on that sissy belt they used on the 03's. also told him that it should be changed to the belt and pulleys used on the 04 and later bikes. all on foctory recall,of course. the dealer told me he hasn't heard of any recalls.i will try to find out of any. and i will write the company and tell them the same. but...i suppose that a thicker belt would do the trick as the pulleys didn't fail.replacing the sissy belt with a new thicker one should be a recall.think of all the times and places you've been when and where a catastrofic belt failure would be bad.well i still want to look into those conversion kits, who knows maybe someday........

i have the same 650 dr and really really think that dirt bikes should have kickers. my xt350 does, my 650atlas does, my 500daytona does, my 65 honda does,and my 38servi-car does.and they all have at least one chain.
thank you to all and i still would like any info on those conversions.oh yeah, the dealer said i probably wont have the bike for the big weekend.

The belt change from '03 to '04 would not be a recall issue as its a running design change. Not everyone had short timers problems with the stock '03 belt and a number of the failures turned out to be mishandling. The '04 belt isn't so much thicker as it is a difference in actual pitch design that allows the belt to be a bit more flexible. Most of the bad belts have since been changed out under warrenty when those that failed did so if they didn't go the 15K they were expected. I do understand your consternation at the belt issue, and can sympethize, but I truly can not see the belt being an actual recall issue, I think Buell has handled it well. They saw a manufacturer/supplier issue, changed to a new supplier and then worked with them for a better design for the next model year. That is fairly SOP for any automotive manufacturer.

If you are mechanically inclined, you could do the chain conversion yourself very easily. Do a search on the Xboard under "chain conversion" Fullpower has put together his very well, him living in an area where rocks are very detrimental to belt life. He uses a Vortex sprocket for the XB's modifies the stock tensioner with a sprocket and makes it adjustable. I can't remember where he gets the front sprocket from and uses a 520 chain. Its all there if you wish find it and look into it for yourself.

No worries, I have been with this site for almost a year and a half, if I had a dollar for everytime someone complained about the belts, well I would have a garage full of Buells : D
Some of the complaints are justified, but most of them are unfounded simply because riders are so used to a chaindrive, they don't realise that in a stock or mildly modified application that is still running the stock gearing, a belt in most cases will last longer overall. Many just simply forget how often they had to replace the chains on their bikes, just simply marking it down as expected maintenance. Alot of times you aren't just replacing the chain but the rear sprocket as well, and if you run aluminum sprockets you could need to change the sprocket before the chain as my old FZR would do.
