Hey gearhead and jetlee thanks for the info. I like fancy things wouldn't put plastic spacers in my bike I have a nice lathe and it only took minutes to make the spacers. The camshafts are for sale with a 2005 Blast, the guy added pro series exhaust and did carb mods. he just never got to the cam shafts. I recently made three sets of Banke's rear sets and he showed interest in a set if his bike didn't sell. maybe he would trade. Anyway Its a thought, thanks again.

Just reviewed a bit of BADWEB Thumper history - and for all you folks that said it couldn't be done - well I did it! Not a shot, just the facts and persistence of pursuing my goals! Lee's bike will probably be awesome, but I'm proud to say I set a standard that a lot of Blastards will have to work hard to achieve, and am proud to know that folks like Lee and others will carry on in that tradition of the Dark side!

Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone knew of any online stores that still carry blast parts? Whenever I search for replacement parts it will either tell me the site is shut down (this is especially true with lots of stores referenced in old threads that I would follow), or they take me to an online store that is still in working order but I will get an email shortly after saying the site has been shut down.

Seems like no one is selling parts anymore, which I guess makes a bit of sense seeing as they aren't making the bike anymore....

HD still sells parts - give them the part number and they will sell it to you - New Castle and others.

Other news -
going to be best man at a wedding - so going to the beach Friday through Sunday - computer time will be minimal.

Have fun everyone!

I've raised the compression in my blast to 11-1 and it runs well however that blast battery does not have enough power, will running the cyclone or sportster battery help or do I need a compression release.

How old is your battery? If your battery isn't up to snuff, the 11:1 will put it over the edge. You'll have to check out the specs on different batteries as they use the Blast battery in the Twins also.

More curious in what you've done to increase the compression...and what other mods you have?

While I concur with Jetlee and EZ, an extra .5 compression (alleged on all counts, you're, mine, EZ's and Jetlee) above what I run, shouldn't pose a big issue. Are all the cables good, tight and corrosion free?
I think EZ is running 11, i'm running 10.5 and Jetlee is certainly at least 10.5 (alleged: different cams, combustion chambers, etc. will change what the static compresion is). If you're running a good ignition system, your bike is tuned right, it should fire right up, even if it is turning a little slow.
That's my experience and as Jetlee asked "how did you get to 11:1" could be the answer.

I have to find my notes but off the top of my head it's the 984 set up with a thinner head gasket and the head was shaved a bit. The compression was checked by a Harley tech. from the pdc. I'll try to get some pic. and find my notes.

Nice to see something a little different for a change : )
Is that a chromed Pro Series exhaust?
I'm assuming by 984 you mean XB? "pdc", I don't have any idea what that is. The only way I see you having problems is using stock Blast cams (which is doubtful you're using those), ignition too far advanced, bad/poor performing ignition, incorrect cam timing, compression ration actually higher than 11:1 or bad, loose, corroded battery cables or bad battery, even a badly worn starter (doubtful).
Are you trying to start it in gear?
How does it run?

pdc is the product development center at Harley 984 is the xb setup. I did not find my notes yet so there is either e cams or the b cams. I think I put in the b's in.The exhaust is coated with what I'm not sure it came off another bike I had bought.Bike runs well just turns over slow and no I don't start in gear. I just think it needs more power to turn it over quicker

I've had the same issue, I've got the old p&f ignition system. It takes a full 13 Volts to start it. I bought a new battery, it's the same stock Blast battery, also the same as all XB and VRod batteries, so it's easy to get at a dealer.
I put the old battery in another bike and all is good.
Ive got the Pro series B50 cams, intake and exhaust also. Bike has 17" wheels, M2 front and and runs 15/45 520 chain with derlin sliders.
I second checking a grounds also.

"E" cams, "B" cams means nothing to me. I have "B" cams in my Shovelhead, I'm sure they are not the same! I need a reference point. Brand of cam, model you're referencing (XL, XB or P3 cams), or just specs that can be cross referenced.
It's probably a moot point since the only cams that could potentially give you trouble are stock Blast cams (which I think are "W" cams!). Any other cams would have increased overlap which would decrease your dynamic compression.
I'm guessing the solution is much simpler.

Makes sense. The cams aren't your problem, unless they are timed wrong or differently.
My guess is timing, poor ignition, bad cables or loose cables, bad timing, weak starter or bad battery. I'm highly doubtful it's the compression, unless it is actually more than 11:1.
Does your clutch cable get hot when cranking?
Does it have a hard time starting or does it just turn slow?
Have you tried disconnecting the headlight and seeing how it cranks?

What's a p & f ignition?

Not to be a dick, but I don't think you could get 11:1 compression from just gaskets and shaved head. That's a LOT of shaving and I think you'd smack valves first.

I have a 10.5:1 piston with thin gaskets, never had any issues with turning over.

Do you have a new battery? Please post a pic of the ignition module. Ignitions don't require a lot of current, so I doubt that's your issue. Likely a dirty ground or two.

If he has a poor ignition and/or with too much advance, that will cause slow turnover. Some ignitions let the engine turnover once before giving it spark (which is the Blast stock ignition style, if I remember correctly). So it's not the draw of ignition, but the type and function causing slow turnover.

Since the Blast uses the most common of cam/rotor fitments, you can put a huge variety of ignitions in it, including points.

When you get a good ignition in the Blast, it's like "BAM" fires right up, hardly turning over at all!!

I can only go by what the tech told me on the compression. We did clay the valves too make sure the valves cleared. The bike is starting better with a different battery
