Court-

Or just assembled in America? Any idea why Buells do not come with a made in America sticker? Guy at the BMW dealer said that he thought they were over 65% made outside the USA. I know cars have the country of origin distribution on them but can't find anything on the bike. Thanks

Sam

Sam:

There are no requirement for motorcycles like there are for cars.

The guy at the BMW shop is grasping for straws and I am not sure where the 65% comes from.

There are requirements (largely unenforced) for labeling anything "MADE IN U.S.A." and it always evokes lots of opinions.

If it helps . . . I know the name of about everyone who designed, built and keeps track of your Buell. Parts, as with everything, come from around the world.

I ordered one of those snappy sets of H.I.D. lights from Delaware and lo and behold I get a DHL shipping notice from Beijing this morning.

I just received my set this morning. I was just curious as to why they don't have it there thats all. Thanks for the insight I wish they would slap one on there though.

Well, if those names are Abdul, Ching Chang Lo, Mwabe, and Pierre, it doesn't help the "Made In USA" at all But ! If those names are Billy Bob, Susie Mae, and Bubba, then we're good to go!!!

Either way, I like the American Motorcycles thing, so I put the decal on. : )

I got a rather large shipment from Buell yesterday that contained "Country of Origin" on the packing list.

For what it's worth . . . of the 62 things I received

  • 85% were Made in USA
  • 11% Made in Germany
  • 2% Made in Italy

If the shipment had been labeled MADE IN USA it would have been in full compliance with the Federal Trade Commission.

Buell makes motorcycles (and by the way so does Porsche, General Motors, Lenovo and Apple) by optimizing the best combination of sources and Buell is not afraid, to ensure you get the best, to go anywhere on the planet to source material.

Anybody who tells you they bought motorcycle switchgear or signals anyplace other than Japan or Italy is likely fibbing you.

I trust the diverse group of Elves, who hail from all over the world, to use their talent and best judgement to keep me giggling. They have an unblemished 23 year old track record with me.

P.S. - Sam if you need the "AMERICAN MOTORCYCLES" let me know and I'd wager I can get you fixed up.

I would love it. Getting ready to throw a 2"x1" flag on it tomorrow. One of the largest factors before I even rode a Buell was the fact it is an American Motorcycle company making American motorcycles. PM is on its way and many thanks. Would love to get my book signed by you and Mr Gess may have to wait until homecoming for that. Love Buell people they are the best.

Be glad they don't. The last thing we need is a motorcycle that runs on some kind of enriched plutonium. Getting stuck in the middle of Kansas with no gas stations in sight is bad enough, imagine having to raid a WMD factory to fill up. : )

Did you see Dorothy and Toto in Kansas while while you were stuck?
