Went there a week ago for my first look at the El Mirage scene. See, I have this fast bike, and I kind of always wanted to go 200MPH, and...you know how it is...

Not a Buell...but I actually did a 1000+ mile road trip (each way!) Thursday and Friday to get me and the bike to EM Saturday morning for Tech. Yes, 2150 miles, 400+ of them in snow and/or darkness. Had a few things to take care of once I got there...spent Saturday wrenching and watching and going to the Rookie Orientation. Safety wiring, pulling lights and mirrors, fabrication brackets and a tethered shutoff...

Then I got called in to work Sunday. Merde.
READY TO GO, but not going there.

May is looking like A LONG TIME from here...

Any Buellers planning to be there in May? I am also going to attend a couple of SCTA club meetings and then join one of the clubs. That is what you do in SCTA...contribute to the general good and all that...very excited about the LSR scene. Would appreciate any club advice or SCTA info or whatever...

Steve, what bike? And you might look at the Mojave Mile, just up the road from El Mirage and paved as well. And at ELMO you must be a club member to set record, you run according to your points standing, no points so you run way back in the line, track can go away early.

Hi FMJ

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am looking into two of the clubs, and will be a member by May. Interested in the role of supporting the event as well, since I like being "a part of the event".

ZX-12R Kawasaki. Big bore, ported and polished head, big injectors and fuel pump, pipe, etc.

Hoping to get in a few good runs in May and get a feel for the lake surface and like that. Any kind of top speed run would be dependent on having enough run time, feeling confident enough about the bike/tyres/handling/surface/wind to really let it rip. I will be happy to get over 150 a couple of times with no drama, really. I expect the bike will go plenty fast!

We checked out the course as part of the Rookie Initiation with Nathan Stewart at the end of the day Saturday. I was expecting that my biggest concern would be the shutoff length, and getting slowed down in plenty of time. After I saw the huge collection of marbles littering - covering - the runoff area just past the lights, that has become my lasting impression of the course.

That and the furrows that Noonan and a few others were digging in the lakebed as they lit up the tyres across the timing finish.

WOW.

So yes, I will be running on a pretty beat up surface in May, both days. Bottom of the totem pole and all that. I am still a little stunned at the debris field at the fastest part of the course.

Any advice? Tyre pressures? Suspension soft or hard or where? I have done some dirt and desert riding, so I am familiar, and comfortable, with loose surfaces. At 150-180MPH? Not so much.

Thanks!

Good deal, dirt experience will be big help. And shutoff was not too bad, went 206 there on the 750.Suspension normal and front tire up rear down a bit. Tire spin normal here, enjoy!

That looks like a LOT less debris/silt/marbles than we were seeing at ELMO!!

You went 206 @ ELMO? Sounds pretty serious to me!

Yup, second pass. First was too tentative. My bud, John Noonan, scolded me--said you are not at salt and you need to leave HARD. So I did and was sideways through third. Great fun!

Dayum!! May is just too far away...

I still don't have the FI dialed in or anything for a legit top speed pass. But I am itching to get a feel for the mud at some sort of speed.

I am stuck on the image of the marble field around the timing trap. Dayum again!!
