Came across a yamaha rz 350 nearby. Poor thing has been messed with and neglected but can be re-built.
I've always wanted a suzuki rgv but they're too rare and costly to consider.
This could make a neat track bike...
Anyone know about these rz's?
Or are they just another cult bike?

You can check the vintage racing sites. The RZ does have a real cult following but you CAN really work with them.

It ain't easy finding one that hasn't had the piss beaten out of it, though. They were THAT much fun to ride.

I remember just a couple of years after they were no longer being made, I couldn't find ONE that didn't have an aftermarket exhaust and safety wire everywhere.

There is still an active ownership and racing group for the old Yamaha RD350 (the European designation for your RZ) over here so it may be worth looking at the owners group site http://www.rd350lc.net/

Later twin headlight RD350R models were made in Brazil so are not as sought after or well built. Early LC models are the ones to have : )

I used to have an early RD350LC fitted with Swarbrick race pipes that I used to commute into London on!

I rode an RD350 for a couple of years in my youth. You've gotta keep up with the PM stuff but other than that they were fairly bulletproof. Just check the separate oiling system carefully. I used to add the 2 smoke oil directly to the gas.
They are fun bikes!

I passed on buying this bike. The owner put clip-ons on and cut off the mounts on the top tree, no turn signals, parts missing, pipes (toomys) had been off for a long time.
Poor bike only had 2700 miles on it and looked real bad. Every rubber part was dried out. Owner said the top end was re-built...after only 2700 miles??
Curious thing, the head light was square and had a full fairing.
And , no it didn't run.
At nearly $3k, I can buy a good used xb for less...but still wanting a nice two-stroke racer...someday.

Doz, sounds like they grafted parts from the RZV500 onto an RZ350. Probably a good idea to have walked away from that chimera bike.

Euro Rd350 YPVS models had a full fairing and square headlight, so maybe it was one of those.

Either way, sounds like it was a bit of a dog, and right to walk away from it : (
