Lorenzo is very good. I wont argue with that, just don't like it when guys whine. Don't like it when Rossi does although that is seldom. VR has done some dumb stuff; when he crashed out Sete that was pretty bad, but he was proving a point Sunday and if he had crashed them both out it would not matter to him. You have to figure he is not happy with Yamaha at this point.

Looked like good, hard racing to me...

I can see where Yamaha might be a tad upset that they weren't able to cinch the Title, but I can also see where Rossi might want to make an "I'm back" statement from earlier this year.

If you look back at Lorenzo's career he has pulled some pretty hairy manouevres himself over the years in 125 and 250 racing. He had a reputation in 250 GP as a wild boy for a while and was actually banned from racing for one round for 'dangerous riding' at the very same track in 2005! So he has no right to criticse anyone for 'close' racing. The bottom line is that the organisers didn't see anything wrong in what went on so there is no problem. Even if Lorenzo had finished ahead of Rossi in the race the manufacturers points would be exactly the same, so I can't understand what Jarvis and the other girlies at Yamaha are whining about : (

If I was VR I would definitely go and get my shoulder sorted sooner rather than later, as it is perfectly obvious that he is getting next to no support (technical or moral) from Yamaha any longer. Why should he put himself through more pain for them? It would also be a final kick in the arse for Yamaha from him ; )

One resaon for Rossi to keep racing this year , is to prove to Lorenzo that he can beat him on the same bike.I am no Rossi fanboy , but I really liked that he gave a good lesson to Lorenzo in Motegi. It was Lorenzo that risked everything and he chose to battle for 3rd , he thought that he could make an easy pass. Never-ever underestimate Rossi. Lorenzo got very arrogant with "post race celebrations" this year and I guess he thought he is faster than Rossi on the same bike.

Maybe Rossi keeps racing for Yamaha , as he hopes that being a "good boy" for Yamaha, then Yamaha will let him test the Duc, but Yamaha seems that will not let him , which is a real shame .

Maybe Rossi doesn't need a surgery after all ,and his shoulder get OK with medicines and physiotherapy.

I think yamaha have already stated that they will not release Rossi from his contract early to enable him to test at Valencia, so he really has no reason to finish the season for them other for personal pride. He has nothing to prove and Yamaha are treating him just as you would expect a Japanese factory to treat an employee who is leaving. i.e extremely badly in our 'western' eyes.

I hope he leaves this season early (so losing Yamaha the constructors title), gets his shoulder fixed then comes back on the Duc next year and blitzes Yamaha and Lorenzo into the weeds : )

Not that I'm at all biased of course : )

He just took a new engine from his allocation. It wasn't updated, just to the current spec. Lorenzo had to use an old engine because he only has one new one left.
I would imagine that he'll use another one on the fly away races then end his season and get his shoulder sorted.
Lorenzo, on the other hand, is more likely to save his last engine for his "home" races at the end of the season.

Sorry, go back and look again. It was an upgraded engine to address the power complaints both riders had at Aragorn.

Rossi's crew have already said that they were getting NO upgrades until the end of the season well before the race last weekend. In their words ' we just unpack the bike and race'. Rossi had engines left from his original allocation and the new motors are always the latest spec (there would be little point in fitting old spec motors from new) so it probably was a minor upgrade but nothing that would be much more competitive than the previous version other than less use. You could see that Rossi had little or no speed advanatage over Lorenzo on the straights so any advantage he did have could be put down to the difference between a new motor and a relatively old one.

One things that is abundantly clear is that Yamaha will give Rossi nothing extra in his armoury if it means he will beat the new golden boy Lorenzo before the end of this season, so Rossi haas to rely on race craft and balls rather than new technology : )

Trojan you are the biggest Rossi fanboy in history . Both Rossi and Lorenzo got an upgraded motor for Motegi . Rossi had the highest top Speed in Most of the sessions last week, but Lorenzo only used his new motor on Raceday, because it was his 6th ,and last motor of the season.

When we resort to name-calling, our point is lost.

You don't have to be a "fanboy" to recognize amazing talent and determination along with a great personality. Both Fiat Yamaha riders fit that description, though from my perspective Jorge did himself some PR damage with his premature showboating antics and recent whining. Valentino beat him on the track. Jorge beat himself afterwards.

Amafan: Actually, Lorenzo used the engine in qualifying but opted to use the older engine in the race. He was concerned with fuel utilization (which didn't seem to affect Rossi's pace at all).

With Pedrosa confirmed to be missing Malaysia, Lorenzo may just stick with the older engine there as well. Rossi has more engines at his disposal since he didn't use as many (missed several races for the first time in his career this year).

As for the Rossi/Lorenzo battle, it goes to show that old age and treachery beats youth and skill any time.

Both Rossi and Lorenzo got an upgraded motor for Motegi

despite the name calling you are a long way from the truth my friend.

Lorenzo used an 'old' engine (i.e one that had been used previously for at least one session (be that practice or race and had not been withdrawn from his allocation) for the race at Motegi. This isn't necessarily the same engine he used in practice at this GP or at the last GP but could be one he had used earlier in the year for practice, race or qualifying elsewhere. It could have covered just one lap for all we know (and neither you nor I know anyway) but is still classed as a 'used' engine from his allocation for the year.

Rossi used a brand new engine from his allocation so that is likely to be the latest spec available to him (although it is highly unlikely he will benefit from anything they would class as a 2011 specification).

Lorenzo still has one unused engine left to him for the remaining rounds but he can still use any of his previously used and un-withdrawn motors at any time until they either reach their 'withdrawal' mileage/time or he breaks it, as can any of the other riders.

Unless you happen to be a very priviledged Yamaha Motor company GP race employee you won't have a clue who's engine has more or less power than the other team member or any other engine in the 12 'factory' motors allcoated to the two factory team members, so you are just guessing and trying to find reasons why Rossi beat Lorenzo that you don't have to admit are down to rider ability.

Watch the race my friend and you'll see exactly how Rossi beat Lorenzo : ) Nothing to do with engine power I'm afraid, just pure race craft and expeience.

Rossi beat Lorenzo on essentially equal bikes. Yamaha is not giving Rossi anything Lorenzo doesn't have. Rossi "updated" motor is nothing more than the latest spec motor from his allotment of 6 motors. When you pull a new one it is the latest setup. It is the motor spec that Lorenzo was using in the race.

Top speed is an interesting number but unless it is a very large difference, say 8-10 mph, it does not tell you who has the most HP. Way to many other variables in the equation. You need about a mile long straight to remove most of the variables and even them how well the rider tucks in make a huge difference.

Dave,

A minor point, but: Yes, Yamaha provided both Rossi and Lorenzo identical new-spec engines. However, for the race Lorenzo opted to use the OLDER engine to conserve his allotment. Rossi has more engines at his disposal (since he participated in fewer races this season) and opted to use the new one instead.

Very interesting press conference in Sepang. Lorenzo chose to make "no comments" for the Motegi battle , which was again stupid from his side. Rossi said something that made total sense ..." What was Lorenzo expecting from me in a last lap fight ?? I always go for the maximum."

For some strange reason, I am starting to support Rossi again. There must be something wrong with me !!

Why stupid? What would be the point? It's over and done with. Lorenzo did the smart thing. He's got more important things to concern him than giving the tabloids something to write about.

This is MotoGP, not the NFL.

He should have been magnanimous rather than petty. Heck, even a little good humor goes a long way.

It seems that maybe Rossi has penetrated Lorenzo's psyche and really has him shaken.

That was interesting. I always rated Dovi more highly than Lorenzo when they were in 250s, mainly because he was always saddled with a Honda and looked the more intelligent racer. He was quick at the beginning of the season but has faded and was made to look rather silly by Spies at Aragon. I hope his fortunes change for the better...........whatever name is on his bike next year.
I've never doubted Lorenzo's speed but his constant self awareness and Rossiesque celebrations leave me cold. If he could entertain us on track and leave the rest behind he'd do himself a few favours. In fact he could take a leaf or two out of Dani's book in that respect.

....and as for Rossi's age and treachery..... he does what it takes on the track and always has a smile on his face afterwards. I don't think anyone is under any illusions about his ruthlessness when it comes to mind games!!

So what happened to Rossi's shoulder ???

Was he making up excusses , for an early exit from the 2010 season ??

Or he had a genuine problem , that has now healed ??

Mr. Rossi....Good luck with the Duc next year , because it is certainly no M1.

The race in Sepang might be the best of the season.
Rossi and Stoner start from the 2nd row , and their race pace looks good , so we might see many battles with the riders in front of them. I hope they can keep with Lorenzo to the end .

But will Lorenzo fight for the win? All he needs is a Top 10 finish to claim the championship.

Looks like there'll be a Spanish world champion in all three divisions this year.

But I'll show my nationalistic pride here:

One question for "the experts." Now that Jorge has supposedly sewn up the title... what happens if he uses an extra engine? He'd lose points and open up the door again for Dani?

So rather than use an extra engine, he can just sit on the side and watch the final couple of races, reducing the size of the grid?

Wonder if anyone thought about that...
