if you guys have geico I suggest dropping them since they don't support a buell bike team. and make sure you tell them that when you cancel yoru insurance.
maybe geico can force RMR to stick with Buell.

Wow, that is a low blow to the team that stuck with Buell even when the bikes were not worth racing. You are a petty person for sure. Why don't you go run a race team for a few years before you go spouting off.

Some people are clueless about all the choices that RMR was faced with and the FACT that they had a CONTRACT with Geico.

I will STILL look into getting Geico insurance BECAUSE of their racing support. In fact, I just asked them again for a re-quote.

I just renewed GEICO on 6 vehicles.

I'd urge caution as I'm betting the actual facts you'd need to make that decision may change your thinking.

GEICO did a marvelous job of supporting Buell Racing.

That is ridiculous. Are you canceling your Geico policy, telling them that and hoping for that outcome?

I don't have Geico insurance, but if I did, it would be for their insurance and not because they do or don't support a Buell (or any) race team.

I do not have the Lizard for coverage but I did get some nice Suzi valve stem caps for my 1125R. Were on special at local Shop. I support who I want locally AND internationally without being influenced by a change in the wind. Have discovered quality is backed up by consistency. I spend most of my $$$ on Motocycles, the rest I just piss away......guess I'll head up to ROSSMEYERS' and get my fix for today. Oh wait, I need to get rid of my BUELL and Harley cause.....

It is good to see so many of you still respecting RMR. I know they have switched bikes, but the support and effort that they put into making Buell a national champion cannot be overlooked because they had to move on. RMR should hold a special place in every Buellers heart.

Guys, ignore Buell2001b, he's clueless. This is the same brilliant mind that brought you these quotes--

"--I will have to agree that Danny is a great guy, but to be honest next to the Buell the Yamaha R6 were the bikes to beat."

--thsi no different then trying to put Stoner on a Japp bike. Stoner would not win.
Some guys were meant to ride V twins and some Inlines

--Ducati has spanked the japps in MotoGP over and over and just like Buell a small company.

If you don't know what's wrong with the quotes above, you don't follow motorcycle road racing. I'm far from an expert fan, but I do know who coulda won the DSB title had it not been for a broken hand (it wasn't a yamaha rider, hint hint), I know the engine configuration of Stoners' Ducati and I'm pretty sure the Yamaha Moto GP team might take issue with the third quote.

Buell2001b you need to get over this obsession you have about RMR and Geico. Just enjoy the racing and if you brand happens to win that is icing on the cake. You should be happy that a company like Geico is sponsoring any team. Non industry sponsors for motorcycle racing are few and far between and we need more of them if the sport is going to grow.

I notice from you profile that Battley Cycle is your dealer. Here is a pic with Devin Battley racing in Bott in 1984. Marvin West who is Cory West's dad is on my BMW. If you see Devin tell him Hank says howdy.

I'm actually torn. As a Buell Racing fan, while I very much appreciate Geico's sponsorship in 2009, I mean REALLY appreciate it, I am VERY disappointed that Geico dictated that RMR ditch Buell for 2010. It seems incredibly fickle. It also seems ill-advised. The team won the championship on the Buell, but now must start from square one with a bike that their competition has been developing for years. It makes little sense if winning is the goal.

I don't know anything about the discussion between RMR and Geico, just what Richie has shared, that the decision was Geico's. I wish Geico would reconsider.

I'm VERY disappointed. I can understand the thread author's disappointment too. I feel like Geico ditched us and it isn't a good feeling.

My approach would be different though. Rather than indignantly ditching Geico, I'll be writing a letter and sending it to the appropriate Geico Motorsports executive. As soon as I find out who that is.

The crew running the RMR bikes have been around racing for quite some time and have a lot of experience with Suzuki's. Frankly it should be a pretty natural transition for them.

Don't forget that Danny was a Suzuki rider for many years before he rode the Buell. He put a privateer Suzuki on the box several times against the factory teams. Also, to blame Gieco outright might not be right. None of us here were at the meetings the Richie and Gieco had. None of us know the full story. It is hard to sit here and get pissy with any one company or organization without knowing all the facts.

I'm going by what Richie said. He stated that Geico was the governing factor in the decision.

Sharing my feelings on the issue is getting "pissy"?

Merry Christmas to you too.

I wasn't singeling you out Blake. What I am trying to say is I am sure there were many factors as to why Geico made the choices that they made. Maybe the whole 1125cc in a "600" cc class debate put them off a bit. Maybe they are worried about the level of support from Buell (remember, this choice was made before EBR came to be). We don't know why the choice was made. But to bash a company and a team on half knowlage is being pissy.

I am not comfortable getting involved in this. But...my comment was "RMR and GEICO have decided it best...". Please guys there are so many factors here. No one is to blame except circumstances that followed Buell being shut down. RMR had every intention of running Buells in 2010 and beyond. If you must know....I have not spoken with Erik Buell since before H.D. shut Buell down. I found out about it by watching a video. I also found out about EBR by watching a video. I had already signed with Suzuki. I have no hard feelings and I wish everyone the best. It is a big paddock and we can all get along. All I ask is you not blame GEICO and RMR for something we had absolutely no control over. The old saying goes..."when one door closes...another one will open". That is certainly the case for RMR and our new deal. I wish the same for everyone involved in this...especially all of the people that lost their jobs at the factory. I know you guys will root for a Buell on the track...rightfully so. Last year was a hell of a ride. I will never forget the support we received from all of you. I will drop in on you from time to time. But to me....this type of thread is not constructive and I will not respond again. Thanks for understanding. Richie

Richie,

I'm confused, and I can see why it might not be constructive for you, but would you please clarify?

On November 20th you stated in your "RtRMR 2010 thread "Thanks again from Danny and I! Hopefully everyone understands it was out of our control."

I took that to mean that you had no control over the decision to switch from Buell to another bike. Bad interpretation on my part I guess. Just wondering how it was out of your control then. I kinda feel like we deserve just the simple answer.

Richie, thank you for your post. I wish you nothing but the best. I cannot wait to cheer for you in 2010. I am an Eslick, so then I will always be cheering for Danny. But your team is a special group. You took on the giants and beat them at their own game. You have made a life long RMR fan out of me. No matter what badge is on the bike you race.

I really fail to see why people don't understand this.

I think it's safe to say Buell gave rmr money to help run the operation.

When Buell was shut down, so was the backing from buell.

I don't know if Suzuki approached rmr or the other way around, but it doesn't matter. You have to strike when the iron is hot. Rmr is coming off a championship. That makes them attractive to other companies. There was no better time to do what they had to do for the long term viability of rmr. You guys need to get a life and stop making Richie or geico out to be the bad guys here. HD killed Buell. While it may be hard to deal with as fans, Richie has a business to run, with employees making a living to feed their families. Richie and his people have to do what they feel is best for those people and their future.

The bottom line here people is Buell is our passion, but in pro racing it's a business. Rip me if you wanna be wrong, but it that's just how it is.

No rip from me Bad. You are more then right. I have never run a motorcycle racing program, but I have been involved with a midget race team for over 20 years. It is expensive to be competitive. With engines costing more then the 1125RR you need help everywhere you can get it. It is no different for RMR. Actually it is tougher for them. That is their business.
