I appreciate the opinions of those from across the pond, but theirs, like my own, are just opinions, unless someone appointed the British as all knowing when I wasn't looking. I do have a limited database from which to formulate my opinions from. I have only been following roadracing since 1979 when I closed my motorcycle dealership, and stopped racing (previous lack of time). At that time we Americans were not getting televised coverage, and all imformation had to be optained from written media. So yea I am just a stupid AMERICAN and look to the British Empire to enlighten us. Cheers Brian}

Ask Rossi, and maybe why he is, or has been dabaling in auto racing and was talking retiring after the last time he won a championship. Don't get me wrong, I think he is an amazing racer, but why isn't the king winning ? I have watched him win on worn out tires before, A few mph on the main straight does not make a race win, I've seen him battle with Stoner throughout the curcuit after he was passed on the straight. I don't know, maybe he is just burnt out, or worried about his taxes. Brian

You win Dana, though it's sad that you completely missed my point (on purpose - I'm not stupid) about different nations opinions about Rossi in favour of your political correctness over my use of the term 'Americans'.

You attempted to make out my comments were bordering on racist when in fact they were nothing more than an exploration into determining why nations apart people see things different about a motorcycle racer.

What a pity you seem not to have an open mind on such trivia. Ironic too how your superiority through misplaced patriotism has us at loggerheads. Rather like America versus the rest of the world all over again.

I'm done.

Rossi is talking SH#T again !

He said that unless the M1 improves next season, he will switch to either Honda or Ducati. He also said that he prefers Ducati because it is Italian. He understands that he needs a competitive bike, it seems that his attitude "I can win on anything" is long gone. I am glad he found the hard way the past 2 years.

But why he did not chose Italian 3 years ago or last year,? Is he patriotic suddenly ? Is he really so much afraid of Casey Stoner ? Is he afraid that Stoner might be in better shape ?

He is also trying to put pressure to Stoner by saying that he doesn't think that Casey would mind Rossi joining Ducati, if Stoner wants to find out who is better on the same package. Rossi is getting nervous, and I like that. I wonder how "Rossi hyper fans" get the entire situation.

But on his interview, Rossi forgot to tell us the real reason he blocked Stoner to join Yamaha and insisted in Edwards, and the reason he did not like Lorenzo.

But I guess the journalists really "respect" the God of sponsors&TV media&money, so their questions are always nice&soft.

You are wrong. Rossi is a professional racer and multi world champion. If the company he rides for cannot give him the tools to do the job he has every right to move to another factory that can. You can bet that every factory team would sell their mothers to get him on board their bike, whether that be Honda, Ducati or anyone else for that matter.

As the number one rider for a team it also makes sense to protect his position in the team and to make sure he gets all of the best engineers around him as well as the lions share of the atention. If that means blocking a team mate then so be it. At the end of the day once the lights go out this is not a team sport, and Rossi is one of the hardest guys out there.

Next year Lorenzo will operate from a completely separate garage and with a totally separate team around him, so lets see how he can develop the bike without Rossi input.

Come on people!

Rossi is a 7-times champion. He should be more careful with what he says to the press. He has nothing to prove. He just got too self-centered and arrogant lately.

Depuniet gave a very different opinion for the Michelin tires, and Rossi is nervous again. Depuniet's lap time aboard Checa's bike were phenomenal. I think Pedrosa is relieved that he finally stayed with Michelin.

Maybe Rossi is looking for next year's excuse...........Stoner and Pedrosa mean bussines.

Maybe that says more about the Kawasaki he rode before than the Michelin tyres? We also don't know what tyre DePuniet was on when he set his best times. For all we know he could have been on a soft qualifier.

The Valencia test times are actually pretty meaningless because everyone except the Repsol Hondas and two of the Suzukis were running 07 spec bikes in either the same spec they finished the last race or only very slightly modified. Some riders had just changed teams and were not trying to set any times (Melandri & Capirossi didn't try to set fast times), whereas others were out to impress straight away and had a point to prove.

I will reserve judgement on who is actually faster and which tyre is better until the new bikes break cover in the January tests. I will however be very surprised if Michelin can produce a tyre to match the Bridgestone over the winter, although they will of course get closer. Pedrosa has no choice but to stay with Michelin, so he is very unlikely at this stage to start criticising them for 2008.

Trojan,

You were also skeptical for the Suzukis last year, after the first tests that went very good for Suzuki. Suzuki's '07 year was the best they had in years.

First tests give a good indication of the things to come.

Actually, Michelin improved considerably after Laguna Seca. Both Rossi and Pedrosa were able to lap faster at the end of some of those races than in the beginning. Pedrosa even noted that wasn't possible at the beginning of the season.

I'm in the camp that Rossi made a BIG mistake in forcing the switch. Not only does HE have to learn the Bridgestones, Bridgestone has to learn the Yamaha (they've NEVER worked with Yamaha before, the bike is a complete unknown to them).

And I remain sceptical of their relative peformance I'm afraid. I think that they were flattered by the Bridgestone tyre in much the same way that Kawasaki have been. I certainly think they have improved considerably, but are they a front running team for next year? maybe, maybe not, we'll see. It would be nice to see more teams fighting for race wins again, that's for sure.

I will state one name: John Surtees

2 or 4 wheels, podiums in world championships in BOTH moto and F1 - same year.

I would have said Surtees, except for the fact that when he won his last 500cc World title he was riding a bike that was absolutely head and shoulders better than all of the opposition put together (MV Agusta). All of the other multi cylinder opponents such as Benelli had pulled out of racing by that time, and the japs hadn't yet arrived, so his opposition consisted of ageing Manx Nortons etc.

In Hailwood's day he was always facing bikes that were either as good or better than the bike he was on, so I would rate his career slightly higher than Surtees in that respect.

Both still heroes though and certainly not much to choose between them ;)

At last, motoGP test in Spain......

What is happening with Marco Melandri ??

First day, he is 1.66s slower than Casey Stoner. Also Canepa is only 0.8s slower than Melandri.

What do the people that were disrespecting Casey by saying "wait till Melandri hands Casey his...." have to say now ?

Anyone ???

Edwards is only 0.2s slower than Rossi.
So is there a Bridgestone grip advantage ? Maybe it is too soon for conclusions, but I see a major "Dissapointed Rossi hyper fan" syndrom next year.

Rossi won easily in Jerez last year, for the record.......
