I just stumbled onto a ride report on ADVrider that I figure is worth sharing. A 65 year old guy from Australia has flown to the US, bought a Uly, had a trailer hitch fabricated, and is going to tow a boat to Alaska.

I'm just on the first page (he started in March 2018), but I figure it's gonna be a hell of a story:

Always wanted to build a trailer for my Uly that was a scaled up version of the "Bob Ibex" bicycle trailer. Want to use an XB front wheel and have it mount through the rear axle with a quick release similar to the "Pit Bull" trailer restraints. Would be boss for sure even if it did add to the unsprung weight significantly. Drag all your gear to the campground and drop it in 10 seconds..

I have been dreaming of a mono wheel trailer for 10 years now. Started when I had the XT. I have not ceased to think of one with the Scg. My mounting point on the bike is not the rear axle. That turns the front of the trailer into unsprung weight. I want to hang it from the passenger peg mounts.

I originally wanted to also use the XB front wheel. I have moved away from that idea. The front wheel takes up too much cargo space and weighs way more than is needed. It is hard to get a high enough speed rating in the smaller tires. The 12" front Pirelli Diablo Scooter Tire 120/70/12 S speed rated to 112 mph and Load rated 51 (430 Lbs.). Priced about $60. Probably what I will go with. Yes I do see pushing it past 112 MPH with a trailer in tow.

My cargo weight target is 100 pounds or less. At that rating I'd get rid of the luggage on the bike. Should be a big savings in wind drag.

The only thing I carry is an extra helmet in a bag on top of the tour pac. If I use a hotel the trailer will roll right into a hotel room. It comes off in 20 seconds.

It does slow you down in the corners as you have to take a larger arc.

I built a trailer for my original '06 Uly. (was stolen)

Couldn't find any pictures, but I grabbed some clips from an old home movie of our Pacific Coast trip. (2008) The original music wouldn't pass so I threw a free-music track on it.

We called the trailer our mini-airstream. My wife has some medical issues and this allows us to carry everything she needs. The front is sized just right to carry a spare rear tire. We stuff a spare belt and some tools, etc inside the tire.

The lid locks and also opens up into a table top when at camp. The leg folds out and is adjustable.

The frame is steel and the skin is aluminum. The floor is made from an ultra-light balsa/aluminum sandwich material that is very strong and has a coating to protect it.

We have put 5-6k miles on with it in tow.
