Author Message   Rnrjim Posted on Thursday, July 16, 2015 - 04:59 pm:        Got stuck in some nasty traffic yesterday on the Coronado Bridge. 73 degrees and a light wind, stop and go and traffic too tight to split. 2009 XB12XT. My Speedo went to "0" and no LCD display. Then my Check Eng. lite came on. The fan is running. All the while my right leg is getting VERY warm. By the time I got off the bridge and fed onto the freeway I had been heating up for over 20 minutes. I pulled over first opportunity and shut down. The fan continued for a while. My leg was very hot. The fuel tank/frame was almost too hot to touch. Fluids were good. 1/3 tank of fuel. 20 minutes later I started back up w/speedo and no Check eng. light. Thoughts? Rider comfort kit? Remap? Don't ride in traffic?   Ourdee Posted on Thursday, July 16, 2015 - 09:02 pm:        Get some more fuel. Check the ECM plugs for cracks around the base. I'll be poking around the ECM this weekend. Will I need to remap my ECM for the comfort kit? Still wondering why my speedp died and I still had warning lights & tach with no performance issues. Sitting in traffic with hot cars/trucks who are most likely using there A/C, radiator fans running, hot road and no wind on a 1200cc air/oil cooled bike is like sitting on top of a car engine. It is never going to be great. Sounds like the fan was working as it should but it has a hard time cooling the engine given the way it is stuffed into the frame. Also that VERY heavy OEM exhaust just acts as massive heat sink which then re-heats the engine/frame and you even more. If it has not been an issue before I would not worry on it. Turn the bike off, if you did not, if waiting any length of time IE More than say 3 mins. The "hot leg" thing is due to the nature of the header pipes position and is hard to avoid. I have a MZ Baghira with the same header routing and it also has this problem. I have experimented with exhaust wrap and it helps a lot. It looks crap though. If you try this use the best stuff (mine is the cheap version) that is made from volcanic ash and double, even triple, wrap the headers.   Rnrjim Posted on Sunday, July 19, 2015 - 03:20 pm:        Thanks Uly_Man. It's pretty clear that "stuck" in traffic is not something the Uly was designed to handle. Even my '95 sporty is a lot cooler in traffic. I will have to adjust my tactics and strategies on those days.
