So, I finally made the leap and swapped to the XB9 primary. Holy cow! That is sweet. I was expected a really low, granny style, 1st gear. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. It puts 1st gear where it should have been. Kinda between a granny gear and it's stock 1st gear. I haven't gone 'off road' yet, but that's the plan. Maybe not quite like Buewulf and his incident with Shell gas, but pretty close. I was also a little worried about Freeway speeds. No need. It definitely raises the RPM, but not too much to make it uncomfortable. I won't want to run at high speeds for an extended time, but 75 to 80 would be fine.

Now, my idiocy. Did you know? That to remove the rotor from the gear, you should press it out? I'm an idiot and tapped (maybe beat) it out. The result? My magnets came loose . While in the process, I knew I should not hit this thing with a hammer, but I didn't have any way to press it out. I should've been patient and took it to work and had someone press it out for me, but noooo. That meant an extra day or 2 with no riding. It had been apart for over a week and I was itching to ride.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the part number of a new rotor. Can anyone help out with a part number?

Thanks,
Ralph

This is from an '06 Ulysses parts manual, includes a sprocket and the rotor with magnets.

Teeps - I appreciate the quick response! But I would really love to have the p/n of the rotor assembly only. That way I don't have to press the sprocket out. Unless the p/n you provided was for the XB9. Is the rotor the same? If so, and I have to buy the sprocket/rotor combo, I might as well get the sprocket I want.

Thanks,
Ralph

According to the parts catalog I have for an '06 Uylsses.
That's how it comes.
The sprocket can be ordered separately.
If you want the rotor; you get a sprocket too...

How were the magnets adhered to the rotor? I was just wondering if you couldn't mix up some epoxy and carefully re-attach it (them?) in the original location(s) inside the rotor. After all, centrifugal force will tend to hold them in position; there should be minimal stress on the glue.

Well, Hugh, I was thinking the same thing. The problem is some of the magnets are no longer in one piece. I wouldn't mind trying to re-glue magnets if I could get new ones, but I know there's a balance issue doing that. Maybe there's a place that could replace the magnets and balance it?

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Does anyone know if the rotor is the same for an XB9? If it is the same, can you provide a p/n for the sprocket/rotor combo?

thanks,
Ralph

I think all the rotors are the same for all years. Sprockets are the same for XB9's or 12's up to 2007, then they change for 2008-2010 with different splines.
