Hello boys & girls, I hope all are well. I have a problem with my Uly that I'm hoping someone here can help me with. I'm attempting to make Daytona on the 17th. and am having a problem with my dumb Uly. It idles fine until I put it in gear, then the idle jumps to 2K. I haven't even looked at it yet but am thinking it isn't my shift linkage pulling on my throttle cable(s). I can't imagine that my neutral safety switch hasn't been disconnected already but I ain't sure either. Any one have this problem and solve it already ? |

Based on his profile, it's a 2009 Uly. This symptom almost certainly means your clutch switch is sticking. When the bike is (1) in gear and (2) the clutch is released, the idle speed goes up slightly when the bike is working correctly. This is to reduce engine braking slightly. If the clutch switch is sticking, the ECM thinks the clutch is engaged and raises the idle when you put the bike in gear even though the clutch is disengaged. The switch is located near the clutch lever pivot on the handlebar; you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. A shot of brake cleaner or similar and working the switch a few times should clear it up. Worst case, replace the switch. |

Clutch switch not the culprit. I'm thinking it has something to do with my stupid rusted out muffler. It sent me a trouble code about that power valve thing a couple of months ago but all I did was put a piece of electrical tape over the idiot light. What an idiot ! It looks as though I'll have to find some time to address the issue in a more traditional manner. Anyone have a stock Uly muffler they want to get rid of ? 06 preffered. |
