Early for that eh? Well, not for me. I tore my meniscus a couple weekends ago and met with the Doc yesterday. Surgery is Thursday and I'm out for the season. I wish I could drop the oil/drain the tank etc. but those aren't likely to happen. What are my alternatives?? Thanks fellas. |

How long we talking? At a minimum, disconnect the battery or put it on a tender. If you are more ambitious, add some fuel stabilizer and run it for a bit so it gets into the motor. Extreme is changing the oil, putting the bike on stands, under a dust cover.. Personally I do nothing, just make sure to charge the battery then ride it, I've had bikes sit for over a year without issue. |

Maybe I'll just go the sta-bil/battery tender route... I'm supposed to be off the bike 4-6 weeks so October-November before I'm maybe fit to ride. Hmmm... might be able to sneak in a few rides after all. |

I've put my bike to bed over the winter the past several years by only disconnecting the battery (storing it somewhere heated), and putting the bike under a tarp in the garage. When I went to start it on an unseasonably warm march day it burped a few times then turned over. When the riding season starts in april-ish I would change the oil in both holes. There are always a few Pennsylvania winter days when mother nature has her seasons mixed up and I start hearing tree frogs (peeps) outside...and that means it's time to go for a ride. |

"6 weeks id just disconnect the battery and be done with it." Yep. Mine will often sit 4 - 6 weeks used when the weather is hot here. It is probably a good measure to add a fuel stabilizer or something, but I never have and never had an issue. Never even a hiccup, and all we have here is ethanol-10 gas. |

"all we have here is ethanol-10 gas." That was my biggest concern, that and the fuel injection, I wasn't sure how it would take a winter without running. I did just do an oil change about 1000 miles ago. I'm hoping for 4-6 weeks, apparently that's my best case scenario. |

for 4-6 weeks i would just go with a battery tender and stabil...any longer and i would change the oil in both holes as used oil contains acids from the combustion process...I Always change my oil if the bike will sit all winter |
