OK so I followed your collective advice and replaced Uly's belt. Except I'm not done; I can't get the new belt on the sprocket. The new belt is 3 3/4" shorter in circumference, about 1 1/2" smaller diameter.

The idler pulley is off and suspension is fully extended; still I can only turn the wheel less than 1/4 turn before the belt's too tight.

What am I doing wrong? You help is greatly appreciated.

you're sure you have the correct belt? My new belt was tight going on....but it did go on ...and after about 750 miles seemed fine

Yea, it sounds like you may have gotten the belt for a short wheelbase XB (XB-S or XB-R).

Check the part number on the belt, the correct one is G0500.1AKx, with that x being variable depending on when the belt was made (all variants will fit though)

If the belt is not a .1AK, it is for another bike.

Right you both are; mine's a g0500.1AAH. I had it included when I bought the bike from a Buell friendly dealer (Bumpus) and a Uly riding salesman. Just assumed they'd get it right. So I've been riding around for 200000 miles with this useless belt taking up cargo space. Glad I didn't find this out at midnight on a deserted road in a monsoon.

Thanks Froggy for specifying the correct belt. Anybody need a brand new but well travelled G0500.1AAH?

I know they are lifetime belts but, 200,000 miles on the original belt?
I'm heading out tomorrow, guess I'll leave the spare at home.

Crikey! I guess that's more 'oughts than I ought to.

The last 0 was actually a cleverly disguised belt signifying an unbroken entity and unity with the oneness of the universe. And the eternal righteousness of my BS.

Make that 20.000 lucky and happy miles.

"Just assumed they'd get it right". Not a good idea with bike dealers and more so with a Buell. Get the last belt version the AKF. Oh and sell the other one to someone else as they will have use for it. Check your bearings while your at it. Good luck.
