I am currently looking at a freshly serviced 2008 Uly at a HD dealership with 20k on it. I own a Cyclone, and I am tired of backpacking. I just do not want to overpay, is 5950 out the door reasonable? The trade in is ~3900 should I try lower? I have seen them at 4500 to 6900. The issue is all the good priced lower mileage ones are out west. Thoughts?

I agree- that's a reasonable price for a nice 08.

Of course, you can always do a "fly and ride" to pick one up out west.

Ok, their price was 6400, I should of mentioned that, anyways I just wanted to see how reasonable a counter offer of 5950 was? Thanks for the input.

Hard luggage is pretty much always a $500 problem to solve no matter how you try to solve it, and Luggage to a Uly is like water to a fish.

So factor that in as well. New tires are worth $200 to $300 easy as well.

Personally, as a 2007 owner, I think the new oiling system and crank from 2008 and up is worth $1000. I'd pay that tomorrow for mine if it was possible to retrofit (it isn't).

(I made up the $1000 figure in that most pre 2008's won't loose a crank, but the ones that do are looking at a lot of hassle and $2000 to $4000 to repair... so its kind of like an insurance policy.)

I think $6K OTD is reasonable from a dealer. Maybe not a screaming deal, but fair.

I just paid $5900 for an '08 with 16K from a private party, and I am 'out west'. Your deal sounds pretty fair if the bike is in good shape. I was willing to pay a little more for mine because it was a local sale, had full luggage, comfort kit, breather mod, life in the tires, new battery, etc. In the end I knew it could be a while before I found one a few hundred cheaper in such nice condition, not to mention the time and travel involved in searching. Was the dealer's $6400 an out the door price as well?

I gave $4500 for mine, (09 XB12X with all the bags and 20K, two sets of plastics and assorted farkles) the seller (private sale) was asking $5500 but it was the dead of winter and the cash must have looked pretty good.

I wouldn't worry too much at your price. I love this bike, my wife does too, haven't put but 5 or 6 hundred miles on it yet but I'd have gladly paid the $5500 if I had to...

Folk go on about price but I will tell you this?

In the past men from Mars would have needed to threaten me with a VERY painful death for me to pay full RRP for a bike but I WOULD for a Uly. And the Uly is the ONLY bike I have ever bought TWO of. Some things are just worth the money and you can not get more for your money that than a used Uly.

You can find one with those kind of miles cheaper from a private seller. Personally I would look for an '08 with 20K on it to go for about $5000, with the possibility you could get lucky and find one for $4500. Seen it many times in the past year, so please don't tell me they don't go that cheap. I got my '06 last year with 5K miles and factory side bags in great shape for $3800. Deals are around and people are unloading for great prices due to a lack of dealer support. Take advantage of it.

Love that video Foto... really great job of editing! I grew up on the Soo Line, once piled some small stones on the track and then that night started worrying the train might derail! LOL that was a long night...
