I found that my horn bracket mounting hole had become worn into a large oval & the horn moved lower & lower until it began buzzing against its contact with the plastic windscreen.
I put a bushing in the hole, reversed the horn & used a rubber washer on the mounting bracket & used a rubber washer on each of the eight windscreen mounting bolts - the colored plastic screen....
Also ran a bead of rtv along the top of the metal nachelle that houses everything- between it & the top of the screen .
Bye buzz!
My guess - just moving the horn would have done it???

When my volt meter arrives - what wire would you splice into?

Pre 2008, the aux outlet does not shut down for low voltage.

I suppose you could just run it off the low beam wire as well, and just accept that it won't work with the high beam on.

Besides the headlights blowing, what other danger is there in riding before getting the new VR? 2wks before I will have one. I was thinking of getting driving lights anyway, may be a good time to get some hooked up.

Over voltage can damage anything that uses electricity including the ECM, and it can make your battery explode.

Mine would occasionally spike, I would cut the motor for a second and restart and it would be fine for a while. I rode like that for like 10k miles before it started getting too frequent then I swapped it.

Looks like VR may be going bad blew another low beam & the high beam is having solar flares on occasion... Have a new spare regulator for the earlier Ulysses - will it work on the single phase 08?

The wiring is a little different, but I don't know if it will work in a single phase mode for your 08. I've seen smarter aftermarket ones shut down if a phase is lost, but I can't speak for the stock ones.

Froggy,
Kag over at ADV mentioned taping off the #8 pin in the instrument cluster as a fix ...
I have not noticed any high readings per the recent kurakyn but am still getting big flare ups of the headlamps...,
