After getting over the trauma of last weeks rear tire and bearing change, this morning I jumped into doing the front tire, and the axle is frozen in the bearings, I have soaked it with PB blaster and am thinking some heat from my heat gun. I guess I didn't grease it last tire change, at least I got the Guzzi's running.

These things run a alloy tube with a steel axle. If you put them together dry they will corroded and seize up. To free it off, before you start work, lock the bottom of the forks into place, wind out the axle until it stops and then "shock" it with a impact device or a hammer over a soft cover on the axle end. It will come out in the end.

The heat worked, yes I know it is left hand thread. A little heat dead and blow hammer.

use Permatex Anti-seize lubricant and you'll be guaranteed no more problems:

I ran into the same problem last month when I went to remove my wife's 07 Sportster rear wheel. I had to pound out that corroded axle. It was the first time that axle been out since Harley built the bike. Sanded off the corrosion and coated it with the anti-seize. Next time it will slide right out without a problem.

I used Exactly the same stuff EG-97 listed. That bottle is like $10 or so but there is a lot in the bottle so it should last a long time.

Permatex Anti-seize <== Good stuff, I use it quite frequently when reassembling my bike, not just the axles.

I prefer plain old grease.
I apply it with a high tech paper towel.

I also use the Permatex.

Problem with grease is, when heated, it can become more like oil than grease. Permatex holds form a bit better IMHO.

And the can has a brush built into the cap, no paper towel required ; )
