I'd like to remove the bags and mounting brackets that came on the uly. My question is would this require different hardware? Like shorter bolts ?

You will need shorter bolts in a few places but they are easily obtained at the local hardware store.

Glen, any interest in selling selling those brackets?

Sorry but I'm keeping the bags, I'm only removing them to try and isolate the source of a wag on the freeway. I was going to remove brackets and all, also my Palmer windshield, but if I need hardware to do it, I'll just leave them.

Glen, I know this sounds crazy but if your getting some "wag" and you have checked all the normal stuff. Check your jacket, I have two jackets one is a flow through warm weather jacket and the sleeve catch enough air to give the bike a kind of wag. When I wear my leather jacket its stable as a rock. It may seems crazy but a little gust that moves your arms inputs steering to the bars. The cons to a super sensitive steering bike. just my 2 cents anyways.

you can take the brackets off an use your existing bolts, just move them back one set of holes, foot peg bolts go into second set of holes middle bolts to back set of holes(rear grab rails). Leaves the
Long bolts out of grab rails to be put somewhere safe.

Nice thanks Nallac. I wear a leather jacket now too but this is a back tire moving side to side kind of wag at around 80

If it only happens in a straight line, check your neck bearings. My Ulysses has developed a notch on-center (30k miles) so I'll be putting new bearings in at the next service.

Check wheel bearings.

Check tire pressure.

My bags cause drag, but not a wag. Any wag, whether it feels like its up front or in back, comes from the front (unless it's rear-wheel-based - tire or bearings) because that's where all the steering is.

Also take a look at your front and rear spring pre-load settings. The Ulysses is very sensitive to steering angle and becomes "loose" when set to ride tail-down.

also tire wear and pressure. A worn out rear caused same issues for me.

Remove top case!!!! Using it without side brackets can break the tail loop, as reported here and per its installation instructions.

I'm going to check my neck bearings right away, I hadn't even thought of that.
It's moving the rear enough to make traffic behind me drop back lol. I'm not sure what tire pressure is correct either because I just put a new 190 pr3 on back.
Rides great below 80/85 tho.

You're wasting your time removing the bags and brackets to find a wag since if that was a problem ALL of us would have it. Check the neck bearings, swingarm bearings, wheel bearings, etc.

Out of curiosity, why'd you go up a size on the rear tire?

I got the 190 because it was in stock and I didn't want to wait for the 180, I got the front in stock size tho.

It could be the tire size.

It could also be a mis-installed / incorrectly-installed rear axle. If it isn't torqued properly, the wheel could be wandering on the axle; in the swingarm; or the bearings could be damaged.
