At the very end of my spring break, on the way back from an awesome mountain biking time, my belt finally died.

It had 21,000 miles on it, the original 06 belt. And had put up with the extra power of a big bore kit for about 18,000 miles.

If the new belts are even stronger, I wonder what kind of mileage I will get out of them? Any experience with the newer version belts?

Probably the same : )

It's really just a crap shoot.
My 2008 belt popped while accelerating away from a traffic light in downtown Boston after only 15,000 miles.

Stupid belts just go when they want to go.

"My 2008 belt popped while accelerating away from a traffic light." I had two go the same way and for no reason. No wear, no wheelies, damage, bearing issues or anything else. And only 7k miles on each one as well. In both cases it was the AKE belt and fibre stress.

I do not have the Free Spirits tensioner. And I ride very spirited :P

Honestly I'm surprised my original belt lasted this long under the conditions. Perhaps wheelies and constant high acceleration make it last longer

"Do you have the Free Spirits belt tensioner fitted, lads? Thay make a difference." I had one on the 06 bike and it did not help any. Put it on at 3k miles and the belt went at 7k miles. The belt went again at 14k miles.

Call me when your belt is putting down 130+ HP at the wheel : )

Both my R and CR are at about 20k miles, original belts, the CR belt has a hole in it from a rock, and thats been there for about a year now. The newer belts sure are tough!

Good to hear Froggy. Not pushing that kind of HP just yet, want to keep it somewhat reliable. But I may be getting some more aggressive headwork done, the Uly doesn't like AZ weather as much as I do.

I have been wanting to pick up an 1125 for a while, but alas, a student salary is not conducive to buying stuff
