Can I remove the heated hand grip from the throttle tube without damaging the grip? I am planning to upgrade to the quick turn Yamaha R6 throttle tube but I want to re-use the stock Buell grips. I have a pin point adapter for my air compressor and I have removed and installed dozens of grips without any problems, are there any tricks to know with heated grips?

The stock Buell (Magura) heated grips are integrated into the throttle tube, so if you want to change grips or the throttle tube you will have to sacrafice (ruin) the factory heated grips.

Polly cartridge heaters are fairly cheap... just switch to those. Maybe they won't heat as gracefully, but they will let you use whatever grips you want. $30 or so without a controller if you just use a switch. If you use a controller, you can get the $20 cartridges (but have to buy the controller).

Anybody used both the Magura's and the Pollys? Are they the same level of imperfectly annoying? Or are the external grip heaters better?

I use the polaris ones, they work great, and just basic install is easy enough, just a smallish cut on both grips the throttle some slack in the able the other you can route it trough the switch device just grinding a bit of the plastic. and adding the switch where you decide.

Another option:

I used the dual element heated grip kit from American Sport Bike:

They allow you to use the factory hi/lo switch and any grips you want. If you call Al he can also sell you the right Delphi plug so you will not have to modify the bikes wiring.
