I commute with my 08X daily. I have an opportunity to get a mint condition 09 1125CR. My only concern is the riding posture. From some of you whom have both, I'd like to get your opinions. TIA.

The 1125CR, especially with the clubman bars has a superior riding posture. The bike is more comfortable, more powerful, smoother, faster, needs less maintenance than the XB, and looks bad ass. There is no reason not to get it.

Go to cycle-ergo.com and check the posture. Compared to the uly, the CR has significantly more forward lean and quite a little more knee bend. I don't own either bike, but for me the more upright position would get the nod for a commuter bike even though the cr is a very nice bike it just serves a different purpose (cafe racer).

If you are over 40 you might consider Froggy is about 19 years old weighs 62 pounds and is under 5'10".

A CR is a nice riding machine for sure, but as a daily rider I would have to pass on it because I am 54, over 240 lbs, 6' tall and stiff and sore back and knees every morning even when I feel good.

If I were you and could keep the X for the commute and wanted a crotchrockety fun bike for twisty blasting have at it!

I actually rode Froggy's CR and was impressed with everything but the higher pegs combined with the laying down on the airbox, bending my knees too far, and the lower bars. But then, I like the up right seating on my X. When I had a City-X I put higher bars on it to sit up.

It is all about how it fits you.

First: Buy the CR - - they are awesome...

I've got both bikes (though the Uly's an XT) and my CR is without the Clubmans, and I commute by motorcycle year-round...

The Uly definitely gets the nod in poor weather / drizzle / rain (which we get a lot here), on fair weather days it's a great option to hop on the CR...

Seating position on the Uly wins out because it positions you looking forward and "up", as opposed to the CR's forward and "down". Clubmans probably alleviate 'some' of this issue, but the ergos of the Uly with higher seat height will give you better sightlines than the CR, IMO.

Second: Buy the CR - - they are awesome (and look bad ass) !

I've never been on a CR but I recently sold my X1 because the riding position was killing me.
I bought an XB12XP. I can sit up, ride all day & not worry about the consequences re: the riding position on the Uly.
As many have said, it's all about how you react to the riding position.
I loved the X1 & would love a CR. However, my physical condition precludes any bent forward w/knees tucked" sporty type bikes.
BTW: I'm 6'1", 200lbs, 51 Y/O and have a "bad" back.
Commuting on the Uly is the way for me to go these days.
The X1 is a wonderful machine but I could not ride it for any length of time because of the "tucked" riding position.
YMMV.

Actually, the tuck will be better for your back because you will not have as much weight on it. Knees aren't cramped either, and I occasionally use the passenger pegs on the highway to stretch out.

The X1 does not make you tuck, it is very upright. The CR even with upright bars is no comparison to the X1.

It's also true if you are 20 feet tall like Chad Hargis.

I've seen him mount the bike, he doesn't climb over, he just walks up and over it from behind.

I have a 08xt and a 09CR with both types of bars. I think I can go father on the CR with the high bars than I can on the XT before stuff starts to hurt(The clubmans are better for riding hard, but that's about it) ... The XT has better weather protection carries more stuff etc, but the CR gets the call for fair weather days. And the CR power is Awesome !!!
FYI 5'6" 175lbs.

I'm 39. 6'4". 34" inseam. Half-titanium legs (including L hip).

Own an 06 X, and an 09 CR.

X is stock except for 1" bar risers.

CR has Buell touring seat and Uly pegs. Clubmans.

I've done 800 mile days on both with no complaints. Actually starting to prefer the forward-lean of the CR - my torso "parachutes" too much on the X, but the CR tucks me down more naturally out of the wind. Might pull the risers off the X and see if it helps. A Cee Bailey windscreen takes the "push" off my torso...at the expense of mad turbulence and noise.

Froggy may be the size and weight of my Arai helmet...but I suspect he might be right here. The more miles I put on my CR, the more I love it. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Uly, and the fact that I can cram ten days worth of crap in the bags and go off the grid for a while...but for commuting, daily grind riding, and twisties-fun? Grab the CR. Just be careful. 80 on the Uly? Feels the same as 125 on the CR. DAMHIK.

I got leg cramps when I test rode the 1125CR but it didn't have the lowered pegs like the Ulysses does. That makes all the difference for me. I can't ride a XB12SS either, leg cramps.

The last time I rode a Lighting Long at Road America, I almost got off the bike before I left the Buell lot. My legs were cramping up so bad I just left them hanging down until the cramps stopped. I don't have that problem with my Uly.

The 1125 motor has lots of power but then again I never use my XB12 to it's full extent.

I've owned both (sold the CR & kept the X). I'm 55, 5'8" tall with a 30" inseam. I liked the riding position on The CR with high bars. Good points for the CR: comfortable riding position, less low-speed vibes, vastly more high-end power. The CR pulls even harder at 7500 RPM than the XB12 pulls at 4000 RPM.

The bad: the CR is buzzier at high speed, jerkier at low speed, has a much stiffer suspension, is hotter at all speeds, and gets ~10 MPG worse mileage than the XB12. It will eventually eat the stator until you install an EBR stator kit at your own expense. Froggy is technically correct about "less" maintenance but you're talking valve adjustments on the CR (rotate engine, remove covers, check clearances, go to dealer, buy/order new shims & gaskets, install new parts, rotate engine back) vs adjusting the primary chain & clutch occasionally with simple hand tools. Oil changes on the CR are a PITA too (2 separate drain plugs, expensive filter, no way to avoid getting oil all over the kick stand).

Ratbuell,
I modified my CeeBailey with a jig saw and heat gun and added slipstreamer rods and it took the turbulence away. Naturally you are 4 inches taller than me so you would have to have a very tall windscreen compared to mine but it can be accomplished. I have been using this setup without any problems since 2006. I couldn't stand the turbulence before that and was unable to enjoy the ULY until I came up with this mod. Now if I could only figure out a cure for baboon ass.

EG - I got one of the $20 ATV gel seat pads at WallyWorld. On long trips, I run one tank of fuel with the pad...and the next without. Alternating like that gives enough change in surface to keep from having those....personal chafing issues.

I've also had good luck with bicycling shorts under my riding outfit. They also have a helpful pad where it counts : )
