Hi Folks, I just recently finished putting 50,000km on a Wee-Strom, which I've enjoyed very much, but I've always been intrigued by the Ulysses. I figured that the window of opportunity for low km Ulys is only going to get smaller, so after ages of scouring Bad Weather Bikers and other Buell-oriented sites, I bit the bullet and joined the club, buying a black 2008 XB12X. I bought it early this month with a mere 9400km on the clock; I've since put ~1500km on this fun bike. It came pre-farkled with a Madstat tall screen & bracket, Drummer exhaust, and the Hepco Becker 30L Junior bags and sideracks (no topcase). I'm considering a couple of options when it comes to full luggage: 1. Run a Givi topcase with the existing H-B bags. 2. Install Givi racks all around, and sell the H-B bags & racks to offset the cost. Even though the Juniors are a far better looking bag in my opinion, I'm leaning towards option #2, as I have a nice selection of keyed-alike Givis already, and I know that the racks will all play nice together, ie: no modification required. I'm wondering what a pristine set of Junior 30L cases + HB racks might fetch these days? These racks have the latch tang situated at the rear and will work nicely with any HB bag, including the Journeys. cheers, Doug Edith Prickley and her homely cousin:

I don't know about the bags, I'm a new owner as well and bought the same bike. I love it. Let a buddy with a '07 Bandit ride it this weekend and now he wants me to find him one (he doesn't have a computer). Anyway, welcome aboard! |

Sorry don't know the price either, but if you choose option 2, I would like to be on the list of buyers preferably 1st since I believe I am the 1st to ask. My PM is set up so u could use that if you wish. Thanks Druelly |

Welcome Doug. I'm happy with my Journey bags so I'm no help. |

junior 30 litres journey 42 litres, on the buell the latch for the journey is in the front so i'm not sure if it will work with the junior rack with out moving the turn signals. |

I would go with a larger set of juniors if you feel you don't have enough room. They are much better bags than the journeys. Do you already have the tail rack attached? Finding one to match with the junior bags if you don't, may well make your decision for you. Also, you will have to get a new set of racks for the journeys, unless you want to mount them backwards and move your rear turn signals like pontlee77 mentioned. It can be done but may look a bit "off". |

Sharkguy, you are correct -- I don't have the top case rack, and I think the scarcity of HB compatible top case racks will be the dealbreaker. I think the least complicated and least expensive three-case solution is to install the Fehling racks from Twisted Throttle, and re-use my Givis (I've got an E45 top case, E45 sidecases for touring, and E21 toploaders for around town). A shame, really because I think the Junior cases are very good looking. Yesterday, out of curiosity, I test-fitted an acquaintance's Journey bags on my rear-latch racks, and they look and fit well; they appear to be non-directional. My rear signals are already relocated, so there was no interference. I'm guessing the only reason they went with the front latch tang on the OEM Journey racks is that it saved a few dollars over relocating the rear signals? Dtaylor, yes you are right, your signals are already relocated if you have the junior bags. I forgot. I have them too. I also have no rear rack. I wish I had a rear rack because I'd love to have an outdoorsman top box. Oh well. Looks like the givis are the way to go. As far as value the juniors are going for around 450.00 for a new pair. That's without a rack. |
