Add me to the list... And add me to the list of those who think new belts put more stress on the right side bearing, causing it to wear faster. First 22K on the bike - Flawless. Rock solid. since then, not so much. Belt 22,167 primary cover 22,314 Right Rear Bearing, 24,150. Hoping that after the bearing issue is fixed, I'm good to go for a good little while. Really, really not wanting my bike to start falling apart.... |

I have only had two failures on my 08XT; rear wheel and ECM connector. Both are known issues. ECM failure happened around 5K miles and the wheel failed at around 20K miles. I relocated the bracket on the ECM and then removed the bracket altogether for my new Erik Buell Racing ECM to avoid the seat contact issue. A 2010 wheel resolved the wheel issue. I also replaced my belt at around 25K miles as a precaution and to have a worn spare should it break when on the road. I did ream out the top hole of the idler pulley to reduce the belt tension based on a guide from another belt manufacturer. I too believe the belt tension can be to high depending on a number of variables. On my bike, I could feel and hear the belt over tension when hitting bumps in the road, especially when riding two up. Reducing the belt tension eliminated the bad feel. Only the wheel bearing failure stranded me. I now have 32K miles and the bike runs great and I would not hesitate to go anywhere on it. |
