Been thinkin for a few weeks that my clutch hasn't been acting the same as always, but I just chalked it up to me looking for problems that aren't there. Today (and yesterday too) after starting the bike, I pull in the clutch (all is well) and drop it into first. As soon as it goes into gear, and before letting out the clutch, I'm hearing a very noticable whirring? noise. Maybe like the sound of sandpaper on wood, but not a scratchy. Once I let the clutch out and get underway, the sound all but disappears (it could totally disappear and I just think I'm still hearing it). I can hear it a little bit at each stop with the clutch pulled in, but it's much more noticable on start up after the bike has sat for a few hours. The last time I changed the primary fluid (took off the primary cover to change the starter gasket), there had been water intrusion through the clutch cable. A good amount of water from a toad strangler 1500 miles before the change. I'm replacing the fluid again in about 300 miles, but I was wondering if there's something else I should be looking at that could be causing this noise. Thanks -darrell |

I had that happen to me. It's the bearing that lives between the inside and outside of the clutch. It only makes noise when half the clutch is turning. I had mine replaced under warranty and the tech said there was so much water inside that it looked like chocolate milk! Rain got in, perhaps from the clutch cable. I added a ziptie above the cable boot. Seems to have worked. I suggest having it replaced as soon as possible to avoid damaging the shaft. |

Ugh. I was afraid it was a metal noise and not a clutch noise. With a trip out west coming fast, I may be looking for a different bike to do it on... -darrell |
