Quick question for someone who has access to a parts book for an 09 XT. What size is the bolt that holds the shifter linkage onto the pinch fitting on the transmission shift spline? I’d measure mine but it’s lying out on the road somewhere between work and home. To get home tonight I’ll need to spend my lunch hour walking over to the NAPA auto parts to get something to hold it together. A part number for the correct bolt would be good too | ||

Zane-try this. The allen head screws that are at either end of the adjustable rod are UNC 10-24 x 3/4" and are Grade 8. The Buell part number is AN1006.2CXZB. Lost mine last summer. Replacement was found at a harley dealer and cost about $.50. Make sure you locktite that baby on. BeLinda. | ||

And even though you probably know this, Zane, it is a one piece unit. The guy at the hardware store sold me a two piece unit. I should have known he was gonna give me the wrong part, he gave me that "are you and your bike from outerspace" look when I was asking him about the bolt. When I got home and tried to install the wrong type bolt, I realized the Uly and the city-x shared the same part, so pulled the bolt off the city x to use as an example for the HD parts guy. Once I did that, and took it to Harley, it was a no brainer and they gave me a bright shiny silver replacement bolt. The harley number was something like TA.00006. I remember it only because I just deleted it from my phone last week. Good luck! B. | ||

mine came off as i was pulling off from a stop light went to shift to 2nd and nothing was there. I looked down and the bolt was still hanging in the linkage so I kept my foot on the bolt so it would not fall out and made it to a parts store up the street. I had tools to fix it but went inside and got some locktite and did all the bolts on the shifter linkage when I put it back together. | ||

Mine came apart the first ride of the season too. Home Depot had the exact match for the bolt. | ||

Sam's came off an hour into our trip to Homecoming last year. Doh! We robbed a miscellaneous screw from another Buell, stopped at the next hardware store and bought a 10-24 3/4" bolt and some loctite and hardly skipped a beat! (Thanks Sean!  ) | ||

I had some one run me up to Home Depot on my lunch break. Rode home without a problem. Tomorrow I'll head to the dealership and pick up the matching bolt. | ||

Mine came off last year 2hrs into a 2500 mile trip to Idaho, Didn't feel like walking or hitching a ride, so I stole a screw from one of my homemade lowers and pretty sure I cross threaded it going in, it lasted the whole way out and back and is still in there. (Nothing more permanent then a good temporary fix) | ||

In case anyone needs to know, the HD part number is 2647B. Silver hex bolt 10-24 x 3/4" stamped H-D and GRD 8 Just picked up today to fix my issue, bolt broke or rattled out. Luckily I was close to home and was able to push it back. | ||

ha, looks like there's a club for this. I just lost my lower one yesterday. luckily, I wasn't far out and on my way home anyway, but I'm sure I had a funny expression on my face when I went to go reach for my shifter and was kicking at empty space, coasting down to a light. I was like, "wtf? where's my shi... oh. I see." as my shifter flopped around, limp and lifeless. I was stuck in 3rd, but was able to manage starts okay for a few lights. so awkward not being able to shift. stopped by the HD dealership today for a replacement; not in stock & special order. can't find grade 8 in this size anywhere, so picked up a temp for now. I wonder how big a difference there is between a grade 8 and a standard stainless in this size... |
