anybody out there know if they make a after market voltage regulator . I think mine is getting ready to go out . my bike kept burning out head lights . so I replaced them with h.i.d lights . now they intermittley cut off I am assuming that is the over voltage protecion circut in the ballast . I can put the volt meter on the battery while running and it reads 14.5 volts

I'm not sure if the voltage regulator is allowing it to spike up or not . I checked all of my ground wires no problems there . my bike is 2008 uly xt

It probably is the VR, I recommend getting another stock one from American Sport Bike. You can always get an aftermarket one like from Compufire, but you will need to get creative with mounting and connectors.

Thanks I went ahead and ordered one from Harley davidson buell of Bloomington . It is supposed to be in tomorrow by 11 am . Going on the miracle ride Sunday there are a few poker runs going on saturday associated with the miracle ride for Riley childerns hospital . Lot of things going on this weekend for riders . Just want to make sure that my bike is in good running order.

You checked the Grounds wires behind the forks? My lights went intermittent when I turned the handle bars to side. Broken Ground wire.

any body know if if the ecm might have any thing to do with the headlights . I was looking at all of my ground wires and started looking at my ecm noticed that it has a crack in it . looks like i will be replacing it soon to .

ECM would not cause your headlights to blow. It is your voltage regulator allowing too much voltage to the point the bulbs blow.

My '06 had been blowing headlights last couple weeks. Riding home at night the lights would flare, the Kuryakyn would max out red, I'd cycle the kill switch quickly and everything would be normal. At first I thought it was the (again) loosened battery terminals, but that didn't fix it completely.

Being an '06 I decided to finally address the 77-connector for good. When I got in there the positive side was definitely on its way out so I removed the 77 and replaced it with a SAE connector. Everything checked out fine and I was happy to get rid of that thing.

Until my headlight flared up again three nights ago. The next morning I traced the VR ground point to a battery tray mounting bolt, same ones I fixed up last year by grinding away the powdercoat and rigging up an extra ground jumper. When I checked it the bolt accepted a good amount of tightening, so I tightened all of them.

So far so good, last two nights no more flaring and consistent battery gauge reads. Hope I didn't just hex myself...

Make sure your VR is grounding well.

I've blown two headlights in the past three days.
With all the info. I've now read, I'm not sure where to start.
How does a person test the voltage regulator? I have a volt meter but not sure where to connect it to test.
Would a bad stator make the voltage regulator go bad automatically?

07 Uly, 30,000 miles, just changed plugs last week. Washed it a few days ago. Could I have gotten something wet?

Make me a check list of things to look for?
Which wires would not be grounded properly or possibly broken.

I will dissasemble things later today and see what I can find.
