Currently on road trip.
12K miles and with good primary oil.
What's the adjustment point? clutch cable or clutch plate on the primary?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like primary chain adjust to me...check that, if it's in spec do a full cable adjust:

1. loosen the adjuster mid-cable to remove all slack from the cable
2. pull the cable ferrule out of the clutch lever, "just in case"
3. remove clutch inspection cover, turn adjuster screw until it LIGHTLY bottoms out (don't crank on it), then back it off 1/4 turn
4. reinstall cable and set lever tension

Both but if you're on the road just adjust the cable in front of the motor for now. Lengthen the housing until you have a 1/16" of play at the lever. When you get home loosen the cable adjuster and adjust the clutch screw all the way down till it touches and back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn and tighten the lock nut. Readjust your cable to suite you.

To clarify, that 1/16" that Tootal mentions is the play at the cable stop at the lever. Pull on the cable while working the clutch lever so that you can see how much play there is.

Clutch Lever Free Play

Also be sure the oil level (primary/transmission) is not excessive.

it may also be a sign of one or the bearings associated with the clutch are going out. That's what mine started doing just before it went. Hope that's not the case here. Ride safe.
