Hello Guys and Gals,

A friend has a Uly 2007 after a lot of problems we got it running quite good just with a small problem on the 3k range, a couple of days ago he was ridding when all of the sudden the bike stated to go all wrong the idle would fluctuate, and eventually die, engine not running good on any gear and any revs, he said it was unridable, a lot of spitting and splattering.

He has open air box, catch can, k&n, hp exhaust and race ecm, touched up a it for that exact exhaust.

the baterie leads are tight, the ecm is well connected, the ground connections are fine, did a diagnose code but there was no error show.

Has any one have some suggestions on what to look at.

Sorry I cant be more specific, on monday I'll go to se the bike.

Many thanks.

Have you checked to be sure the ecm isnt cracked and rubbing on the bottom of the seat?

Starting with the simplest, fuel quality/water in it? Fuel flow through lines? debris in fuel tank?
I would guess that since you're pulling no error codes, things would point to fuel related problems. But, that's how a bad ground behaves.
Plug wires, plug wire connections at plugs & coil?

TPS reset and idle adjust. Get it HOT and do the procedure. I'm on blackberry right now but pm me and I can email it to you.

Sounds like an intake manifold leak...but I'm not sure if that would produce any codes.

thanks for all the replies, I'll start with changing the ecm, the tps reset was done this way 2 resets in cold and a 3rd one in hot.

coils and plugs should be fine they are iridium and 8mm wires.

will spray on the intake main fold to see if there are any leaks.

I'll keep update.

Look for a small bit of carbon build up on throttle plate when "forcing" it closed. It should not feel gritty or other than sticking closed as you do the TPS Reset.

I did a TPS reset one time that made the bike run worse due to carbon on the edge of the throttle plate making it not seat properly.

There was a long discussion last year on the XB board. Try this link: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/575178.html?1277175232

Ok got the answer broken shaft on the Throttle Body, curiously it was the rear screw the failure so the butterfly would fully open while the Tps was just a tad open, so the ecm was understanding quite different things.

That's good news that you found the problem so quickly. Some of us had much more difficulty finding the problem. I hope you get it fixed soon. How is the weather there? Are you still riding?

weather is fair there is no rain but the twisties in the mountains with out the sun are damp, so I ride some general roads that have some twisties, the best investment was the warmed grips, (I always have cold hands)
The part of Spain where I live we can ride most part of the year.

About the Throttle Body fortunatelly I bought a used 06 one for 60$ in nearly mint condition, so saved my friend over 300$, and after having mine break and changing it nearly a year ago, we fitted it in with new gaskets (original ones the jims are to wide and I never had problem with the stock ones, so why change?) so as we have the engine down we will also change the rocker cover gaskets and put a bit of silicone sealer to prevent the sweating. Hopefully the bike will be back to ridable.
