How the heck do you get to the front bolt on an '08? Does the muffler REALLY need to be moved? Noticed that the stand went up with a rattle/clank the other day. Checked and found that it was loose to the engine. Rear bolt was easy to tighten. Can't figure out how to do the front one. No good angle for an open or box end. Not enough clearance from the muffler for even a 1/4" drive socket. Mark SEAZ |

According to the manual - remove muffler. |

The muffler can be lowered, but it's best to remove it to allow access for proper torquing of the bolts. Also replace the bolts... |

My 2 bolts broke on my last ride on my '06 Uly. While I was getting off and putting the bike on the sidestand. And my girlfriend was about to get off. (the bike that is) I've never laughed so much... her face was priceless. Needless to say I plan on upgrading to Grade 8 bolts. And clean the exhaust can while I'm at it, with new clamps for the exhaust. But... \iDoes anyone know how the cases are formed there?}{ I'm also thinking of welding a sidetab to the sidestand mount bracket, tapping a threaded hole in the side of the engine case, so as to add a third bolt. The idea being to keep the sidestand from coming loose and hopefully taking some stress off the two vertically oreiented bolts that seem to need more frequent tightening than I had been doing... |

There should be no problem with the OEM replacement bolts, if installed and torqued to spec. If you are intent on doing grade 8 bolts see this post http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/287535.html for how I did mine. Pending the recall repair. I have had no subsequent problems since Californian Buell/hd did the recall several years ago. |

+2 On replacing the bolts! Sure does suck leaning the bike against the pump when filling up. |

Made on of these. All OK for now. My '08 is post sidestand recall, so there should be no problem with the fasteners. Still... Might go with socket head fasteners to allow easier checking in the future. Mark SE AZ

Replaced the bolts on the '06 and while the exhaust was off added a bit of safety wire, no issues since. |

Looks like a good idea. I just ordered the strap and clamp for the muffler. Mark SEAZ |
