So I finally got my Uly. I wanted a better commuter than my firebolt, so picked this up.
I don't really see myself touring across the country by motorcycle, so decided to pass on the factory luggage set and go for some sportier soft bags. I like the bags I got, but not the way they sag and swing up under the seat.
After checking into the factory rack, I thought maybe I could make my own for a little cheaper. Here's what happened.

It's very simple. I made it w/ 1 piece of tubing,4 attachment points, and it's surprisingly stout.
Underside w/ luggage.

Ready to ride.

The whole thing cost about $10, and it will take $30 to powdercoat, which will be done as soon as Ullr and Skadi decide to deliver their magic again.

Looks like electrical conduit, and given Corider's profession listed in his profile, I'm sure it is.

Nice job! I'm sure it helps immensely to have the right tools and be an experienced pipe bender!

Looks good. I wish I could bend tubing like that!

I had those same bags on my SV650S for 6 years.
Worked great,I could leave my fishing pole sticking out the side bag.

Corider, That is a very nice simple but effective design. I think it looks fine and will be even better when powder coated. What color will they be? Also, how did you anchor the bottom end to the frame? Good job!

I was just thinking if these were for a GS, you would have paid about a grand and they wouldn't fit perfectly nor would they look as good.

That is exactly what I need for my soft bags. I am stealing your design!

Hughlysses guessed it. It's made of 1/2" emt I had laying around. You can get it @ any home improvement store's electrical dept.
The bottom of the rack is attached to a factory drilled hole behind the passenger foot peg. The fab shop has a grey that's very close to the frame color. I'd have preferred the champagne of the tail section, but it was prohibitavely expensive.
Thanks for the comments.--CR
