Just wanted to hear from some ulysses owners?? I have a 09 XBXT that I just bought. Have about 1100 miles on it. My mileage around town was around 38 and about 42-45 on the highway. However, when I had my 1000 service they reset my computer and now it is down to about 30 mpg around town. Any thoughts - not exactly sure what they reset. Anyway - my fuel light came on after 105 miles. seems awfully low to me. I was hoping to get 150-200 miles before that happened. thanks Dale | ||

My best tank was 75mpg, but that was before I started doing detailed logs. I typically get 60-65mpg, and that gives 220-240 miles before the gas light comes on. | ||

wow froggy, thats good... im not seeing anywhere near that. I got about 38-42 per gallon when my light used to come on at 150+/- but now its on at around 110 or so. Its been alot colder here lately (about 40F) but i dont see why mpg would drop. 60-65 is amazing. | ||

Some areas role out oxygenated fuel this time of year. Always good for around 10% lower MPG. Plus in the Fall/Winter time the air is more dense, which I would think causes a closed loop system to add more fuel. (Message edited by towpro on November 06, 2009) | ||

About this time of the year many states switch to a winter blend of gas, you will experience a loss of fuel economy running this gas. Assuming my XB was still running, It would get low to mid 50's during it. | ||

No body does a good as Froggy. Most of us weigh more than 62 pounds wet!  Did he ever mention that when the engine is not running, but the bike is moving, it does not consume any fuel? There is another factor that works against it in the winter. Cold starts. My gas mileage is normally around 49 to 52 mpg. If I throw in three cold starts at 40F, it will drop to 43 -45 mpg. I always let it warm up while I am putting on my gear.....both take longer when it is cold out. If you can find non alcohol gas it can be good for up to 10% more mpg. | ||

60 - 65 mpg is amazing, unless they've started selling imperial gallons in the NE since I moved away. I don't see how you do it. I'm averaging around 40 mpg mixed 20% fast busy freeway/30% city/50% aggressive back road. All the gas around here has ethanol in it, which as others have noted, usually plucks off 7 - 10% in my experience. (Message edited by Buewulf on November 06, 2009) | ||

30 mpg is pretty low in any case. Even with winter blends, I've never seen MPG that low. It might be something as simple as a dirty air filter or otherwise restricted airbox. There's an issue regarding oil level and what that can do to your airbox that would be worth reading up on. How does your air filter look? Reduced airflow often causes the ECU to compensate by making it run rich. This happened to me on another vehicle (defective air filter). Changed the air filter, MPG back to normal. | ||

I was just wondering if they did something with my computer since they said that had to reset my fuel injection computer. not really sure why. thanks for the input so far. I'll try and find someplace that doesn't put any ethanol in there gas to see if that helps too. | ||

I'd agree with Hmartin that 30 mpg is too low. I've done better than that flogging and R1. Something is wrong, and I don't think it is a stretch to conclude that something they did (or didn't) do during the service caused the issue. Is it just the fuel economy that is off since the service, or are there any other issues: flat spots, surging, bogging, reluctance to rev, etc? Is the air filter coated in barf? I don't see why they would reset anything but the TPS on your computer, and I think that can be done easily by the owner on an '09. You may want to try it and see if it does anything, but I don't think that could be causing your problem. In any event, I'd probably take it back to the dealer if they're nearby and tell them the issue. Otherwise, some of the veterans here will likely identify the most likely problems and point you in the right direction. | ||

One year old Uly, 13,000 on the clock. Commuting to work and back on mixed country highway and city streets I seem to vary between 38 and 42 mpg. Hammering on it in the mountains of fast cruising on the highway it goes up to 50 to 55. I've only seen 60+ on a couple of occasions. | ||

09X 8500 miles City=45mpg Hwy=55mpg..I try to stay away from ethanol also,seems to run alot better w/out it..Good Luck! | ||

with 600 miles on a new 09, I've been getting high 30's. A little worse than I anticipated considering I weigh 140 lbs and 90% of the time don't have any of the bags on. The bike is mechanically bone stock right now. I've got a K&N filter but haven't installed it yet. Any issues with a K&N and the stock fuel maps? I'll be leaving the exhaust stock forever. | ||

I am getting about 42 miles per gallon with the race ecu and pipe. 15k. Back in the early days I had a few 60 mpg but after it broke in it got worse. I was gona try and do some tuning tomorrow to get rid of my cold start dieing problem. | ||

On my first tank of gas last week my '09 XP got 40.6mpg's. I'll be filling it up next week and we will see if it gets any better or worse. I'll post it... | ||

If the dealer just remapped it then go out and ride at a constant speed around 3000 rpm and let the ecm learn. With low miles and a fresh download it may take a while to come back up. On my 06, if I reset the tps and the afv it runs strange until it relearns again. You might want to install the "comfort kit" and have them do that download too. That would allow the fan to run while your riding but go off when going slow or stopping. | ||

2007 Uly converted to XT with XT suspension- 47-50 with a best of 52 to date with no tuning changes. This with usual cruising of 70-75. I'm happy but it does have a rough running range of off idle to 2500 where it feels lean. | ||

I have an 09 XB12XT and when I asked the dealer head mechanic if remapping/resetting the ECM would improve fuel mileage, I was told that Buell does not recommend this be done as it's very difficult to do. I'm running 91 octane and seem to be getting better mileage as the bike breaks in. I suspect your problem is related to resetting the ECM which my dealer was told not to do. | ||

45-55mpg commuting and twacking. If I'm touring, ie. burning more than one tank in a day, I see 60-65mpg while laden and cruising at 120kph. Cold weather and short trip ride circuits really gorge on the gas. The bike really doesn't get warm for me til about 30' of riding. Most of my (commuting) trips are less than that. -p | ||

06 XB12X I generally get 45 miles per gallon, no matter how I abuse my tires. The only changes to the bike are an 07 airbox and K&N air filter. | ||

I seem to average about 42mpg on my '06 Uly (Jardine exhaust and full luggage). I've seen as good as 49mpg going normal speeds on country roads and as low as 39 mpg averaging 85 on the interstates for longer trips. | ||

My 06 gets in the low 50s on the highway and less on the surface streets. I keep my tire pressure high, my idle a bit low and ride with the traffic most of the time. I have gotten 55+ on highways when not going much over 70. Faster really kills the mileage it seems. Darn air resistance! | ||
