This is a picture of the Corsa III on it's last leg. Was heading back from Colorado east to Virgina and stopped to fuel up about 80 miles west of Hays, KS which was my stop for the night. Did a quick walk around and saw the cords. At this point it had about 5k on it which was not to bad considering there had been a fair amount of straight-up riding on the trip Made it to Hays that night and lucky me there was Doerfler HD/ Buell right across the street from my hotel. It was a Sunday night so Monday morning I get up and roll over to get new rubber....not! Closed on Mondays.....in fact I come to find out ALL the HD dealers in KS are closed on Mondays. Next door was a Yamaha dealer and I poked my head in the shop door and the parts gal did have a 180/55/17 in stock...a Battleaxe BT-015. Cool, how much? $235!!!!! Yikes, well, they had me. Talked to the service manager and he said he could get it on right away for $65. I asked him if he or his mechanic knew anything about Buells...."oh, sure I use to work at the HD shop next door"....Yeah, but are you familiar with raising the bike on the muffler and the torque spec sequence for the axle and the potential bearing issues etc....."well not really" was his reply Happily he let me go back in the shop and work with his mechanic Zach and get it jacked up and explain the torque sequence about 25# then back off full 2 turns then 50# final. I had the new black bearing and sure did not want them messed up. Long story short Zach was cool and let me wrench with him to do it the way I would do it if it was back in my shop. All told with tax it was $320 for a rear installed. WOOOOW. Guess I was lucky there was a 180/55/17 tire in Hays, KS. BT-015 seems to be "ok" and once I got back into WV it seemed to fall into the turns well. That tire can be had on the web for about $145. I figured when I left on this trip that the Corsa III would not make it the whole way. And actually I am pretty happy I got 5k out of it since it is a race tire. It is amazing how fast it goes from rubber to cords. Next tire for me will be the Michelin Pilot Road 2CT  | ||

I figured when I left on this trip that the Corsa III would not make it the whole way. And actually I am pretty happy I got 5k out of it since it is a race tire. Race, no. Sport, yes. I'm on my 3rd rear on the Ducati Hypermotard, and I like them. Only 2500 miles per tire, though.  | ||

The Ducati stays in Robbinsville, NC during the summer, so that tends to "balance" things out ! | ||

Christ! I'm used to getting waaay more miles out of a tire. Had 12,000 on the original tires on my Street Glide when I traded her in on my Lightning.......this is due to compound, right??? | ||

this is due to compound, right??? Compound, road surface, riding habits, load, tire pressures, etc. Plus it helps to ride like a girl.   | ||

Then I'm in trouble.......  . "Plus it helps to ride like a girl." I do!! Part of the problem, I guess.....got my first speeding ticket (damn sneaky photo radar) on a m/c in 30 years yesterday!!  |
