May have to take off the Buell sanctioned RSS and reinstall the original plastic piece for cooler weather. I forecast condensation gooey buildup on oil dipsticks as average temps dive below 65 degrees. I'm finding the fan sometimes doesn't even kick on at shutdown now that the comfort kit is installed. I always want that fan to kick on at shutdown so that my engine lasts forever. Maybe some kind of cap can be fashioned for the RSS or maybe a butterfly choke style valve. Actually that might be the ticket. |

I found out during my skip spark issues that sometimes the fan wouldn't come on at shutdown. This continues now that I have added the RSS. But I learned then, that if the fan doesn't come on, cycle the ignition back on and off, and the fan always comes on. At least for me, if it isn't another problem in the works. |

Can we please hold off talking about cold weather for another month! I'd love to, but here in Chicago it is too late. It got down into the 40's F one night this week! Hey speaking of cold and winter and crap... I'm at about 9600 miles and I don't anticipate crossing the 10k line by much this season. I'm thinking I should wait until spring to do my 10k service (skipping the fork part probably - they seem fine). Does this sound like a reasonable plan? My thinking is that it would be better to go a few hundred miles past 10k to change fluids and stuff in the spring, than to do it now and let them suffer from condensation and all that over the winter. The garage is not heated. I'm too cheap to do it now and again in the spring. (Message edited by atoms on September 02, 2009) |

You should always change oil and add fuel stabilizer before storage. Florida-maybe you have the same ecm problem Ettenuly had,not turning the fan on when it should (Message edited by mnrider on September 02, 2009) |

If you don't change your oil before storing it for the winter, all the acids and other by-products of combustion will stay in your engine all winter long, eating away at stuff. I always change my oil in the fall, put it away, then ride with that oil in the spring till the next scheduled oil change. |

By the looks of things this past 30 days we might be looking at a very long and cold winter and that just sucks. |

Atoms, I know, I live in Munster IN a few mile south of Chicago. It has been a little chilly, but this is my favorite time of the year for riding. I like the brisk mornings. |

Put a sock in it. Nono...not the conversation. Stuff a sock in the RSS if its too cold. I've got a winter mask for our diesel; same idea. |

I'm not saying I'm done for the season, I just don't anticipate doing any more long rides. I actually don't technically store it over the winter. I take it out for good long hot ride at least once a month over the winter. Even though I don't ride it much, I can't bear the idea that I would have to NOT ride it on some of those nice 40F days that we have sporadically thoughout the winter. Atoms, +1 on not really storing it and once a month-ing it. Priceless is the look on the guys face when he sees you riding and knows his is put away. It was nice out today. |

YES! cold weather is coming! It's been in the low 50's the last four night when riding home. I'm looking for a Uly comfort kit that will blow some warm air on my left leg like it does on my right side. |
