I'm going on my forth latch now. The last three failed at the pivot pins. The holes in the plastic where the pivot pins slide through gave out. The forth latch has a crack in the center of the flat plastic portion of the outer "hooked" part of the latch. I now feel like I need to carry a spare latch in the bag all the time. Has anyone come up with a solution? Does anyone make a metal replacement? This is definitely a disappointing situation!

When I killed my first one, Buell replaced it under warranty. I found that the failure was caused by the operator. The bags must close all of the way before latching. Using the latch to lever it shut is easy to do, but will lead to failure if something gets in the way of the bag shutting.

The bags are on my bike all of the time and used daily. I have not yet broken one since that first one, over three years ago. Lesson learned.

My bags are on all the time and are used daily. I make sure I lean against the lid before I latch it so I'm not using the latch to close the lid. I was good for almost two years then all of a sudden I'm going through latches. I would prefer them to be metal!

I always use these and sell them for £6 a pair which is far cheaper than a new latch!

Yep, that is the hot ticket! I think that will solve the problem. Thanks!

You can get those in the camping section at Walmart for all of less than 4 bucks for a pair.
