Decided to sell my 8,000 mile 2007 Uly today.

The dealer offered me $6,400 straight up last week - not trading it in on another bike.

Sad to let her go really, great all 'round bike, but I blew a disc out (L4/5) in June and its just too painful to ride anymore.

Any thoughts on the Price? It's a whole lot easier to sell it to a dealer than on my own - even if I could get mo money.

John

That doesn't sound like a bad price, thats what 06's seem to going for, so for only 1 year difference and with a dealer seems good to me.

Most dealers have new & improved Ulys to sell, more than customers buying them, so for one to offer to buy a used one back, that is a good dealership. My vote is take it.

Go get some surgery and have those suckers fused together.
I fractured some vertebrae and blew out some disks in the process. The doc. fused them together and not only do I have great posture now... I'm still riding and pain free.

$6,400 sounds like a very good price from a dealer.. I'd jump all over that If I was trading. So much the better for selling outright.

Hey Bosh ,

Yeah, I had my neck fused, screwed and plated back in '02 with pretty good results.

Thanks for the input, sounds like $6,400 is a fair price from a dealer then.

Johnboy777,
Try to avoid any more surgery. Get an inversion table and see if you can heal yourself. Your body has a great capacity to heal itself if you just let it. Doctors love to make money and will do surgery even though it may not be necessary. Ruptured discs can ease back into place given time and inversion. Surgery should be your very very very last resort when all else has failed.

JohnBoy - Damn Pal! Whose going to do the cold weather glove testing if you're no longer a Uly owner ?! Sorry about the back. Electra has a point - I don't fortunatly have any serious back issues, even at 61 y/o. One of the advantages of only being 5'8" ? Anyway - I know folks who swear by the inversion table. You could probably rent one for a month or 2 to see if it helps. Get some 2" risers for the Uly - that definatly helps. Be well. j

Of all things, my Buell tech, Rob, told me about the inversion table the last time I was in for my new muffler, and saw how I was walking. I'll have to look into that...thanks.

EDIT:
Okay, I'll spill my guts - I was chasing my 15 year old Cocker Spaniel who was chasing the mailman; I did a diving catch landing on one knee. Two days later I was being hauled out of my living room on a stretcher and into an ambulance for a ride to the hospital. 9 days in the hospital and each and every time a new nurse came on duty they'd smile and say; "so you're the guy who got hurt chasing his 15 year old Cocker"

My wife's a nurse and made it a point to put that on my chart.

Anyway, it was the wife's dog and I think the dog did me in on purpose. When I got home, it would never make eye contact with me, so that's how i knew.

Yeah - those cockers are a diabolical menace. They look all cute and innocent but... If there were a particular breed of dog plotting our demise...it would be them. The no eye contact is a sure sign of evil intent. Get a mailman uniform and hang it up next to her bed.

FWIW, a friend of mine has a small KTM dealership and he checked into it for me today. The retail is $7,600 and the wholesale is $6,500.

Sorry to hear about your back! I herniated a disc many many years ago - is that the same thing? Anyway, I had no insurance at the time so surgery or any kind of medical treatment was not an option.

Over time the thing healed itself mostly - I mean, I have a normal life of riding, and bicycle riding and all that. But I have to be careful about lifting and my posture and not letting myself get too fat.

But I was just gonna ask about the dog: did the wife have the dog before you met?

""But I was just gonna ask about the dog: did the wife have the dog before you met?""

No, she got it while we were dating - about 15 years ago. I feed it, walk it, buy its food, but its her's.

It was the runt. Runts are runts for a reason. This dog is industrial strength dumb.

But, I am very careful to take extra good care of it at ALL times, because if I don't, the dog makes my life miserable by way of its potty habits. It knows how to F**k with me, and it does so at will. It rules my life, and it knows it. It can even read my thoughts, so I think only happy thoughts when its around.

If I try to show it who's boss, it simply takes a dump on the kitchen floor, then stares me down when I find it. Guess who gets to clean it up...me.

The dog is sinister, really.

But it can't last forever - 15 years is like 105 or something in dog years...its day is coming, soon. Very soon!

And I'll be there for that slow ride to the vet.

Johnboy,

Sorry about the back and bike. Having learned your relationship with the dog, may I be so bold as to ask why you chased it?

""may I be so bold as to ask why you chased it?"'

The mailman was screaming like a little schoolgirl, because my
15 year old Cocker was chasing and barking at him.

I thought it only prudent at the time.

EDIT:

In hindsight, I see that the dog had planned all of this all out, knowing that the mailman would react as he did and baiting me to chase her. As I went to grab her, she lunged forward and to the left, causing me to fall on my right knee, rupturing my L4/L5 disc, which she knew was already in a weakened state.

Can you see what I’m saying here? It was all premeditated on her part – all of it.

Sorry to hear about your back JB777! I have to agree that dog has it in for you and planned the whole sordid affair. Not too early to start thinking about what festive music you can play on that long slow car ride.

Just from a posting at Badweb perspective you gotta keep the bike! Make it a planter or something, just keep it!

Johnboy, sorry to hear about your incident and the pain. Giving up riding must be painful also. Maybe you can make the ULY a trike and get a SOFT seat with a FIRM backrest.

A trike would be cool with big fat nobbies on it!
