I think it's for securing multiple helmets using the helmet lock.

I'm not privy to Buell's intentions, so I can't say for sure, but I'd guess it's to put halfway through your helmet's D-rings and then lock both end loops in the helmet lock above the rear preload knob. This might be most useful when your bike's wearing it's sidebags. I know my helmet won't fit onto the helmet lock when the bags are on the bike. The helmet strap just isn't long enough.

Just my guess, though.

never thought of that. that will come in handy then since the d-rings on my helmet didn't reach the lock even with the boxes off :S

Thanks

What is this cable thing?
Did the 06 come with one?
Is early alzheimers kicking in? I don't recall seeing one.

It's a ~6" long piece of small diameter aircraft cable with a small loop on each end. You should find it stuffed in the bottom of the little zip-up cloth pouch that your toolkit came in.

My 2000 X1 came with attached cables just like the one in the tool kit to secure helmets to the bike. The cables run thru the d-rings and lock under the seat on the X1. I got the helmet extension for my lock on the Uly I just keep it there when I ride.

Had to run down and check.
Nope, not in there. Doesn't mean it wasn't there originally - it probably was and I don't recall.
I rearranged the tools I carry a while ago when I added that farm machinery manual tube.

Babired - I have the same extension. It is essential for helmets, like Nolans, that have a ratchet chin strap.
