Has anyone changed the rear shock oil? I was thinking of going to a thicker fluid to better match the way I travel. I removed the clevice from my shock and stopped when some of the oil shot out. A small rod and seal raised out of the tube.

I have placed the rod in the tube and need advice...

I am afraid I have displaced some oil out of the shock or lost the gas charge in the shock when I allowed it to expand suddenly.

Anyone have any suggestions? How would I recharge the gas in the shock? How much oil to install?

Thanks

Rich

I'll bet they are but probably only by the OEM. I bought high end Progressive Suspension shocks for my Harley quite a few years ago. Lifetime warranty which I've taken advantage of. They rebuilt them a couple of years ago. I paid shipping to them of course.

The rear shock is a decent quality Showa item. I think it is servicable, but only by a specialist company.

If you've lost oil, yours is toast!

I know a guy that does suspension. If it's got common Showa parts he can not only change the oil, but customize the valving inside too.

I need the same thing. I have a spare shock that needs service also. The last quote I got from some company out west, performance or something like that, was more than the cost of a new shock from Buell.

Prichmon, I sent a pm a couple days ago. The owner prefers that I not post his number on a forum... his rules.

I'll send it again.
