I'm wrenching this weekend. The fan in my "new" '06 Uly WAS sounding bad, but it's cleared up. Not being one to believe in self-healing fans, I'm going to swap it with the 55,000-mile fan that's in my "parts" bike.

Now I recall that removing the fan is a PITA, but I also just remembered that I'm gonna swap headers (put the cool BLUE ones on the new bike) also this weekend.

I'll bet the fan is REALLY easy to remove when the engine is rotated down, no? Any opinions?

P.S. Rotating the engine down will bring back lots of memories...some good, some not so good.

hey Doc atleast in my manual for my 12r it says to take it out from under the seat area which means removing the rear shock I'm not sure what it looks like under an Uly seat tho. I don't think it would be easy to reach with the motor rotated and looking at the pics I don't think you can pull it out towards the front of the bike b/c of the "flange" that the bolts go thru to mount it. good luck

Yeah, I know the fan comes out the top (I have the manual), but I'm hoping having access from below might actually help a little. Who knows? I'll pass on my experience, as usual.

The electrical connector will be easier to reach. I'm thinking with the header out of the way there will be room to pull it out the front.

It comes out pretty easy, just by removing the shock.

I'm on my third.

Well, the fan comes out VERY easily towards the front if the engine's rotated down. I did learn to rotate the engine UP before removing/installing the shock.

Note that I had to rotate the engine to swap headers; would not have rotated it just for the fan.
