I just got a new used Uly, and am in the process of doing a bit of maintenance.

One thing I notice is that when I've got the engine running at speed, if I grab the clutch and release the throttle it takes it a while to get back down to idle speed. It will hang around 2000-1500 rpm for perhaps 30 seconds and then settle down to 1100.

I thought it was the throttle cables, and replaced those. That helped a LOT (it used to hang around 3000 rpm for a while) but it didn't entirely get rid of the issue. I remember seeing some posts about this in the past, but I can't find them. What should I check for? Intake leaks?

Mine used to have that exact problem but hasn't for well over a year. Only thing that I've done is an ECMSpy TPS reset at the 10,000 mile mark. Now have over 16,000 miles. Some where along the line I also had the ECM reflashed from 06 to 07 spec because of the holes I added to the airbox.

Try lowering the idle. Mine did that when I set the idle a tad high. Try the simple stuff first of course.

As stated, lower your idle to 900 - 1000. The factory says 1050 but sometimes even that's too much and will cause your problem.

Plenty of discussion on that in past threads. Do a search and you'll find lots of info.

Yeah, several of us went through that problem when the '06's were new. The idle speed would float or hang at 2000 or so then slowly come down a little.

The book called for 1050 idle speed which was right at the breaking edge of when the ECM would take over from idle. I have been running mine at just under 1000 and never have seen the problem again.

My X1 did much the same thing when it got hot.
The solution was to set the idle at 950.
Been that way since.
The specs are too high.

I wish I could just turn my 2008 down too but the computer has my bike!
