So yea, the other day I customized my Zumo. Turns out I didn't latch it in properly, and when I did my routine wheelie as I get on the parkway, it decided to go on its own adventure. It survived all fine and dandy, just with a few new battle scars. I will post pics tonight. My main question is, what's involved with painting it? I saw Maximum got his done in red, I am thinking of doing it up in blue. BTW, it is one tough mother ******. I swear it went under the wheel of the SUV behind me, but I'm not 100% sure.

Froggy:

I **think** I have spare end caps that came with mine. If I do and you need them you are welcome to them.

I'd dull and uninteresting . . . a perfect match for the stock caps.

I don't think the casing (other than the top and bottom panels) is something regularly sold, but have heard Garmin goes out of there way to please their customers. So I would contact there customer support team.

Hmmmmm.... on a different but related note has any done any software related mode.

Court, thanks for the offer, but i think i am good. My zumo is scuffed, but nothing some sanding and paint can't fix.

I finally started using the 2-hole screw to hold mine down. Have had a couple close calls.

Saw one of the Uly guys at HOmecoming who got a longer screw and epoxied a knob onto it so he didn't have to fish for that funny 2-pronged screwdriver.

another question i have is how hard would it be to move from one bike to another. being that there also set up to use in a car, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, is it.

Neil the easiset setup would be to get a mount for each bike. The Zumo pops out of the mount no problem. My 550 came with 1 bike and 1 car windshield mount, so i use it there too. A second motorcycle mount is kinda expensive:

Motorcycle mounting bracket (replacement)
010-10859-00
$ 85.00 USD
RAM mounting kit (replacement)
010-10962-00
$ 59.99 USD
Motorcycle power cable (replacement)
010-10861-00
$ 21.50 USD

Hmm, actually it looks like your best off just getting the wiring and then moving the mount from bike to the other.

What about just buying the mount from Buell accessories?

I haven't been able to get my hands on the part numbers and directions yet, so i can't even check the prices yet.

I have mine set up to swap between 3 bikes. I used a short coiled cigar lighter cord soldered onto the power supply wire for the motorcycle mount. I just got 2 ram ball mounts for the other 2 bikes and plug in to the cigar lighter. It only takes a few seconds to swap.

We have had the Zumo and are currently using a 2720.

However, we are set up to move the 2720 (and the Zumo when we had it) between bikes.

We got the Garmin Power Cord from Powerlet, and did the same as Dio, but sing the Powerlet Socket instead of a standard cigar lighter socket.

Ram mount on the second bike, moves quickly between bikes.

The modification that I did was I replaced the tiny "security" screw with a stainless steel thumb screw. No more screw driver, cheater glasses and a flashlight required...Google it up or go to Advrider and do a search...some guy in the Neatherlands make them...about $6.00 each.

Here are some pics of my mount (posted a few weeks ago)...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/376758.html?1216866246#POST1205404

I removed the security screw cause it's a PITA!

I'll post a pic of my solution for the security screw (not shown in pics linked above). It's just a safety strap to keep the clamp closed so what happened to Froggy doesn't happen to mine.
